THE ENTERTAINER
Illa Brown has come a long way from rhyming on street corners in the nineties to be recognized as one of the most exciting new voices in Canada’s urban music scene today.
Emerging from the west coast underground with DJ Kutcorners in 2003 they released the gritty, sample heavy single “Rock On Yah Block”, selling 500 units independently. The single earned the hip hop duo nation-wide exposure being included on the critically acclaimed national compilation Dig Your Roots Project 1: Hip Hop produced by !Earshot.
The following year Illa Brown stood out once again on DJ Kutcorners DJ/Producer album entitled Most Valuable Players (Bogueart Ent.) with the singles “The Formula” and “Damn Right”, the latter receiving considerable spins on college and commercial radio with reviews in Discorder and Georgia Straight Magazine.
By 2005 he had performed at all the premiere venues in Vancouver and currently performs live at top hip hop nights during the week at Lucy Mae Brown and Shine.
He has shared the stage with American rap stars like Raekwon (Wu Tang Clan), Fat Joe (TerrorSquad), and others over the years establishing himself as one of Vancouver’s most sought after rap entertainers.
He has appeared numerous times on local television shows like 969 on MTV Canada, Pass Da Mic on Shaw cable and Mango Vibe on Channel M.
With captivating stage presence coupled with the smooth, effortless delivery of his rhymes, his street buzz continues to grow nation-wide with the release of his debut album entitled –the illtraduction lp, (Bogueart Ent.).
His hot new radio single “Red Apple” featuring Juno nominated songstress Cory Lee is rocking college charts and commercial radio in Canada. The song’s sexy new music video, directed by David Langloise is heating up on Much Music.
Poised for a break out year, Illa Brown is a rising force on the west coast and will be touring and promoting his new album across Canada this year.
