"review"

...his collaboration with top notch producer Brad Steckel brought a contemporary pop sound to the folk-roots project with the masterful layering of instrumental and vocal tracks, providing the perfect backdrop for Mckinley's compelling voice and his spare guitar lines. The result brings the aural spotlight squarely on the artist.

Mckinley Matters' THE SEVENTH DAY sheds a new light on a gifted, multi-dimensional artist who possesses a highly distinctive sound and wide appeal.

"Producer thoughts"

"To get to work on a project with McKinley Matters was truly a wonderful thing. He
writes from the heart about love, pain, struggle, life and his place in it. He will touch
you with his images and melodies and leave you wanting more. I can't recommend "The
Seventh Day" more strongly, it's a bloody good record. I'm proud of the result and look
forward to making another with McKinley one day. This guy's got the goods!"
- Brad Steckel

Bio

I've been privileged enough over my short career to have played with some of the finest musicians the world has to offer. Rick Derringer standing stage left during my past performance at the Calgary International Blues Fest was definitely a highlight. I also had the honor to front a band with Duris Maxwell as the drummer. Probably one of the finest players in the world (he was good enough for Hendrix).
When it comes to songwriting I just let IT happen. Because of my varied taste in music I've been able to write music in many different styles. Leave me on a deserted island...I'll take the blues every time but good music is good music. "The Seventh Day" is my new album under my new moniker Mckinley Matters. I stepped away from my stratocaster and concentrated on a more roots approach to my songwriting. This time around the lyrics and melodies are front and center.
I like to be inspired when listening to music-both lyrically and musically-this is where my songwriting is striving to accomplish-inspire. I'm looking forward to bringing my live show to everyone who has the time to listen and love.
