Bio

Spawned from the creative fertility of the Phish scene (Founding members Michael Beck and Jason Miller were longtime employees of the bands philanthropic arm, “The WaterWheel Foundation”.) They joined forces in Kalamazoo with Ryan Jones on bass guitar to form the core of the band.

Mobile Chiefing Unit (MCU) has proven themselves as a much needed beacon of positivity in tumultuous political times. Their first studio effort, “Smell the Reggae”(2002) was recorded at Western Michigan University Sound Studios (Kalamazoo, MI) and is an uplifting blend of conscious lyrics, driving reggae rhythms , and psychedelic musical exploration. Their unique sound quickly made them a staple of the bustling Kalamazoo music scene and landed them a headlining spot the Dunegrass & Blues Festival .

Realizing a life long dream to ‘head west’ - The core of the band relocated to Arcata, CA in 2003 where they addition of Markus Messina and Eric Bosch cemented the bands unique sound. MCU is starting to make waves in the NorCal music scene with unprecedented local support.

They have shared the stage with such musical legends as Jimmy Cliff, Al Schnier [moe.] and Israel Vibration to name a few.
The band is set to release their sophomore effort, "Dreams We Have Today"[mastered by Paul Stubblebine (Grateful Dead, Santana, Jerry Garcia Band)] this summer with a national tour to support.
