Bio

Classically trained, Jazz influenced and Soul inspired, Marcya Daneille is a versatile vocalist who has embraced her eclectic musical background.

Born in Stuttgart, West Germany, Marcya's musical education began early in life as she sat at her grandparents' pianos and explored the keyboard. Her mother soon realized that Marcya had a musical talent, and by the time she was 7 years old she was studying piano. Even though Marcya studied Classical piano, she was exposed to a variety of music through her parents. Her mom sang Gospel and Jazz standards, while her dad was a Jazz pianist.

Maryca was in high school when she began to sing professionally at local weddings. After high school she went on to study vocal performance at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University.

As an undergraduate student Marcya could be found singing throughout the Chicagoland area as a means of contributing to her college education. She had her first professional contract with an opera company, the Lyric Theater of Illinois, at 19, while she was a fulltime student. While completing her degree. Marcya was named Young Artist of the Year with the Lakeview Music Society, the Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee, received honors from N.A.T.S. (National Association of Teachers of Singing), and was chosen to perform at the International Art Song Festival.

Upon graduating from college Marcya continued to sing professionally as a member of Lincoln Opera Chicago, but eventually left the area to attend the University of Iowa on a full graduate fellowship. At the University of Iowa Marcya completed graduate coursework in Voice Performance, focusing primarily on the roles of the Verdi and Puccini heroines. Marcya juggled her academic studies while maintaining a private voice clients and a full performance calendar. Marcya was chosen to represent the School of Music in a landmark performance with internationally acclaimed Bass Baritone Simon Estes in celebration of the Silver Anniversary of Hancher Auditorium. Always one to rise to a musical challenge, Marcya was handpicked by the contemporary American composer, Regina Harris-Baiocchi to create the role of Zora Neale Hurston in the opera "Gbeldahoven" which premiered at the Art Institute of Chicago. Marcya was afforded the opportunity to study abroad and studied graduate voice at the Guildhall School of Music in London, England, as well as voice and Italian Art and Culture at the Centro di Studi Italiani Dante Alighieri in and Urbania, Italy.

After moving to New York In 2000 Marcya immersed herself in the rich musical culture of the city. She has worked as a session singer and background vocalist on a variety of projects in many genres including Classical, World Music, Rock, House Music, Neo Soul and Gospel. Marcya has performed onstage at som eof the city's most popular venues including the Apollo Theater as an ensemble member supporting Vanessa Williams, Bebe Winans and Gerald Levert, Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar and Crash Mansion.

In 2008 Marcya decided that it was time to explore a new artistic direction: Classic Vocal Jazz. She rang in the 2009 New Year in a trio format at Alta Voce in New York and kept the momentum going with dates at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Miller Theater with Wycliffe Gordon (Wynton Marsalis Septet; Jazz at Lincoln Center).

In February of 2009 Marcya met the acquaintance of Burt Eckoff, a former pianist for the great Dakota Staton among other Jazz notables. The two began working together on Jazz Standards, including the repertoire that Dakota sang. Burt was struck by how naturally Marcya fit with that particular style of music and he was instrumental in coaching her. In April Marcya and Burt Eckoff, along with bassists Lisle Atkinson (Nina Simone) and Michael Max Fleming (Betty Carter/Gloria Lynne) performed at the 5C Cafe in the East Village. The audience was transported back in time by Marcya's authentic, straightforward interpretations of the songs of Dakota Staton, Carmen McRae and Dinah Washington.

2009 continues to be a year of great promise and diversity for Marcya Daneille. Marcya continues to operate a successful voice studio where she trains other professional and aspiring singers. She recently completed her debut CD entitled "Simply...", which also includes the song "Simple Things" (originally recorded by the late R&B songstress Minnie Ripperton). The recording features Aaron Diehl on piano (Wynton Marsalis; Wycliffe Gordon), Wycliffe Gordon on Trombone (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; Wynton Marsalis Septet), Dezron Douglas on bass (Cyrus Chestnut) and Jason Goldstein on guitar, as well as Roland Barber an established trombonist/educator/composer who contributed an arrangement of the Negro Spiritual "City Called Heaven". The session was recorded at the historic Nola Recording Studios with Jim Czack as the engineer. "Simply..."will be released in Fall of 2009
