In a time when real musicianship is discarded for computer-generated beats, watered-down imitators and the infamous auto-tune, MDMF has assembled to breathe life back into the game. Founded in Long Beach, California in Spring 2010, MDMF’s roots can be traced to Oakland, California, where The Oakley brothers Joey and Monty were born and raised. Monty’s infectious home recordings and Joey’s ingenious drum talent incubated for nearly a decade until the stars aligned and MDMF was born in the LBC. With the addition of cousin J-Mal Watts on vocals, guitarist Freddy “Shreddy” Herndandez, and bassist Michael “Real Estate” Solan, the Oakley brothers finally fused talents to create an explosive sound.
Monty and Jamal’s wise, rich lyrics tell an enthralling story, backed by an incredibly dangerous rhythm section. Songs like “Wanted” and “Money Spent” strike the core of your soul, while “Make It To the Top” and “Pop Yo’ Colla” put you on the floor and leave you craving more. “Asphalt Burns All” sparks a wave of energy usually reserved for a punk-rock mosh pit.
Core to the band’s philosophy is bringing raw, authentic music back to prominence. Among the bands major influences are the likes of The Roots, Jay-Z, Rage Against the Machine, and Sublime. As well as a vast array of eclectic artists and genres ranging from bay area funk and hip hop, to classic rock greats, to masterful jazz, electronic, and drum corps. As the band continues to evolve, they regularly define excellence and secure their headlining rank as a highly sought after musical act.
MDMF is a hard-working, professional-minded band, having headlined some of the most popular venues in the LBC in just a very short timeline of existence. In hopes of touring Japan 2011, MDMF is ready to expand beyond the Long Beach / Los Angeles area to anywhere and everywhere that their music will be enjoyed.
