Bio

The 24-year-old Jamaican, who goes by “M. Dwizzy” when on the mic, came to Nantucket with his family when he was 15. Back in Jamaica, Dwizzy ran around Montego Bay in a rap crew, competing in pick-up rap battles with his friends and chanting lyrics of his hip-hop heroes. “I heard music everywhere I went,” he says. Yet it wasn’t until moving to the States that Mark Dwyer became M. Dwizzy, and he began producing rhymes of his own.M. Dwizzy as a smooth and soulful delivery which sets him apart from the rest of emerging MCs. Growing up in the mean streets of Glendevon had a huge influence on M. Dwizzy’s music. He attacks issues such as police brutality in his hometown, while also inspiring and influencing people to chase their dream by any means necessary. Although growing up M. Dwizzy was a standout athlete he decided to switch paths after realizing that music was his true calling. Now he is on the pursuit of happiness with hopes of showing the world that he too is a star.

What distinguishes M. Dwizzy from growingly popular rappers is that Dwizzy actually has something to say, a story to tell. Many of rap’s greats earned fame and ultimate immortality not solely by their rhyming ability, but by distilling the trials of their lives into potent, impactful lyrics. Their music speaks to their community, while also revealing a side of America to a broader audience. Though being born and raised for the greater part in Jamaica, he declared that Rap music has always been his first choice of musical expression, but his love for dancehall has given his music a hardcore sound that reflects the experiences he had growing up in Glendevon. He describes his journey toward being a rapper as being “ very exciting” and looks towards delivering his new sound to a niche of Jamaicans who are everywhere around the world. He makes no secret of his Jamaican roots and almost routinely refers to his country of birth and uses the language to express his lyrics giving it a distinctly Jamaican flavor.
M. Dwizzy has been working the underground circuit of the Greater New England Area that comprises of Massachusetts and Connecticut, where he has been performing at some of the New England’s most popular venues such as Bamboo, the Muse as well as the famous Hard Rock Cafe in Boston which has featured famous/legendary acts such as Jimmy Hendricks and Nirvana to name a few. His performances have been getting much positive support and has been well received,. He lists tracks such as ‘Wake Up Bake Up’, ‘Get that Money’, ‘When Summer Comes’ and ‘Remember Days’ as some of the more popular ones that have grabbed the attention of his growing fan base so far.
