me pretty

Me Pretty is a sonic and performative project that formed in the fall of 2015. It's members, Ethan (guitar and vocals), Sarah (drums and vocals), and Sophia (bass and vocals) met at the University of California Santa Cruz. Being apart of and resisting the oppressive power structures of the University of California in many ways shaped and formed the perspectives, ideas, and passions that Me Pretty is composed of. Some of these experiences include protesting against tuition hikes, the militarization of the police, and police terror. The spaces that brought us together were the Kresge Natural Foods Coop and the informal student organizing circles that at the time took the form of a General Assembly.  
From these experiences and these spaces, a radical left politics has been woven into the sometimes explicit and sometimes abstract lyrical and sonic movements of Me Pretty. A deep sense of existentialism, absurdism, and nihilism are also entangled in the heart of this group. Being wrapped up in a historical moment defined by environmental collapse, capitalist crisis, and global social turmoil, Me Pretty's radical politics and intense energy manifest themselves in an experimental and punk sound.
Me Pretty's performances are often crazed, ecstatic, cathartic, and creative. They often garner intense responses from the crowd. To facilitate both a cathartic space where people can express themselves fully while also not forcing others to do things they are uncomfortable with, the members of Me Pretty often intervene in the crowd to make sure that people are not hurting each other/respecting each other.
