‘MEAN AND NASTY - OHIO PLAYER' SET FOR JULY 9TH RELEASE ON THE GHETTO SOUNDTRACK RECORDING LABEL

“Both alarming and soothing, ominous yet inspired…his voice sells, the way Marvin Gaye once sold a proud but defiant kind of confidence...Mean’s confidence can transfer easily to anyone’s inner life, with a little suspended disbelief, and that makes him a kind of motivational speaker. Feel as much like Mean as he does, and you become a G.” – WF(102) Blog

"We believe that Mean And Nasty is among the elite; one of the most talented and compelling artists in the industry," said Raven Biagas of GSC Recordings. "He's done an amazing job of building his brand and image, and together with GSC's promotional muscle and marketing savvy, we intend to elevate Mean's stature across the board. It's an exciting time to be in the Mean And Nasty business."

(May 21, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA) Just days ago, hip-hop’s underground elite gathered in a mid-Wilshire area Los Angeles hotel ballroom around the man of the hour- Manny Brooks better known by his stage name Mean And Nasty (derived from the acronym M.A.N; the first three letters of his first name,) – in a show of unilateral respect and branding force befitting a man of his commanding stature. The occasion: the announcement of a July 9th release date for the much anticipated album Ohio Player, which features guest appearances by West Coast Hip Hop icons Rappin' 4-Tay and Volume 10.

Right from the beginning Mean comes out swinging, with the lyrically abrasive anti-trap themed "Call It Rap." Newly released to radio and online, the Ale-Jhay-produced banger is the lead single and video from 'Ohio Player,' and sets the tone for what will be Mean’s most epic, most ambitious project to date.

On the new album Ohio Player, Mean and Nasty’s musical style range from upbeat funk to ambient soundscapes; layered with tenacious, gritty vocals, always delivered with conviction. His songs are textured with melodic instrumentals and headnodic, bass heavy drumbeats. It seems to be mere child's play, how Mean toys with the beats, often times rhyming syllables in odd places, creating a unique feel and swing all his own. As an artist, Mean and Nasty is unafraid, in fact, quite the scientist; as we find him experiment with using layers of vocal samples to add different voices to the mix and sine waves, usually saved for synthesizers, to add to this albums organic yet, stylized sound.

“Believe it or not, it's been two years since Mean And Nasty's last solo album The Ghetto Soundtrack hit stores. Since then, his stature in the game has grown exponentially, with the growth of the GSC Records brand, his epic XXL and FORTUNE (Pimpin' Confucius) mixtapes, and the constant barrage of new material, features and online content that he and his GSC cohorts flood the streets with daily, Mean is on a new level." - Vents Magazine

Not content with the ordinary, and thoroughly determined to dominate the conversation, Mean has bossed up and partnered with west coast legend Rappin' 4-Tay for the sure fire hit “How To Be A Player.” We also hear Mean sparring with "Pistol Grip Pump" rapper Volume 10, they collaborate on an instant hit record called "Meet Your Daddy."

“The Ghetto Soundtrack is for the people and by the people and with GSC records I wanted to give back to the people by helping others reach there dreams,” Mean told the expectant crowd gathered at his Los Angeles press conference. “This new album is a project that I have dreamed about for some time…it’s my best body of work yet. Ohio Player is often very dark but, always an honest story…and it’s very lyrical. The music and production value is next level. It's a gift to those who belive in the impossible; dreams can come true.”
