Bio
MeccaLily came together from many local Rhode Island bands and from longtime musical friends. Jon Buser (drummer) and Martin Bradburn singer/songwriter first met at the clubs of Newport, RI. Their love of music especially rock/pop/progressive, jazz and world music cemented a friendship and many musical endeavors.
Martin and Wayne (bass) first played together in the pop outfit Simple Circus that morphed into Sheltering Sky and then Man Overboard, with Jon, playing the RI club scene at venues like The Last Call and The Living Room in Providence and 333's in Newport. John and Martin were always enamored by the intricate music of Eno, Fripp, King Crimson, Talking Heads and lots of pop music like XTC, Crowded House. Martin has studied for many years with Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft approach to music and living.
Jon and Martin are both engineers, bringing a technology influenced mindset that is also leans heavily on polyrhythmic excursions like those in much world and progressive music.
Wayne has always brought a punkier attitude to the mix. An engineer, avid painter and theologian his art and humanities background and love of bands like Blondie, the Clash, punk and New Wave have always lent an edge and depth to the proceedings.
Dave Cousins (guitar/synth) our latest member is a scientist, sailor and is also influenced by the arts. Dave and Martin first played together in the pop quartet Surreal World, whose signature song is still played by MeccaLily. Dave sites the Beatles, the Dead and other Jam Bands, Dylan and punk as some of his many influences.
Dave, Martin and Wayne all write music and lyrics and sing bringing a varied tonal and conceptual palette to the table. Jon an avid percussionist and solo/looping Chapman stick artist (A Post Modern Jon) brings his rhythmic and beat sensibilities forming a solid foundation with Wayne that drives the ship that is MeccaLily. With crisp pop rock, vocal harmonies and great camaraderie, MeccaLily brings a unique perspective in their search for musical moments and connections.
