Bio
MECHA, formed in 2000, is back on the scene after a 2-year hiatus. In 2001, Mecha signed to Derek Shulman’s One Man Army Records. The band has played major venues in Chicago, such as, the Metro, Double Door, Hard Rock Cafe, Abbey Pub, Logan Square Auditorium and Subterranean. They have been spun regularly on Q101/ Local 101 and have appeared as a guest.
John Hiler (Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, Slayer, Billy Corgan) produced Mecha’s 12-song rough album. Mecha’s four-member ensemble features a combination of established musicianship and untouchable talent. The combined force of Johanna Mahmud, Brandon Weiwel, Philip Ghalioungui, and Sasha Horn is one to be reckoned with. Johanna Mahmud and Philip Ghalioungui attend Columbia College Chicago’s Music Department. Respectively, they are jazz performance and compositions majors.
Mecha is currently producing an E.P. scheduled for release in Spring ‘06. Mecha’s new material boasts a fierce live show, combined with catchy alternative rock, modern sound, mature song writing, and a contemporary approach to pop song structures.
