"Consequences of Sound"

"Meekos & Me isn’t just another indie band with a string instrument. There’s something about the sound of this LA-based duo, featuring lead singer/guitarist Joey Colando and cellist Danny Grab, that sounds vaguely reminiscent of mid-90s, jammy pop/rock, something you might have heard on a college radio station back when that was actually a genre."
"Colando’s vocals are gentle without being raspy, full-voiced yet melodious. His accent occasionally betrays a laid back West Coast vibe"
- Jake Cohen

"Wildy's World"

"Gorgeous, plain and simple" - Wildy

"The Ripple Effect"

"All the songs are really good and the sound is built to suit the content. Due to their changing style and story telling it manages to keep you interested throughout the entire fourteen songs."
"It is difficult to sum them up into a single genre as it is cleary a work of creative collaboration rather than a decision to make a folk band or a rock band."
"A really creative album. It is enjoyable to listen to and I will be on the look out for their next releases." - Koala

"Melodic.Net"

"Adventurous and Colorful" - Kaj Roth

"Stereo Subversion"

"...This is a band with potential and one to keep a close eye on." - Tom O'Neill

"All Access Magazine Meekos and Me Hotel Cafe Live Review"

"Joey's soft, but full voice, and Danny's cool cello blend together to create a whimsical sound that would have been appropriate on the Garden State Soundtrack."
"...I came to realization that they sound a lot like Wilco."
"...(Whistle Everday) reminded me a lot of a Coconut Records song. The happy-go-lucky song should be exit music for a Wes Anderson Film."
- Chase Parlee

"Odds and Ends"

"There are some truly inspired moments where the gentle folk melodies mesh beautifully with the strings..."
- BMF - Bill's Music Forum

"Meaningless Excitement"

"Strong lyrics, artful melodies, a slightly whispery voice, a cello playing beautiful countermelodies. And then the background tracks are just, whoa." - Smooth Atonal Sound

Bio

Meekos & Me are an American acoustic indie band comprised of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Joey Colando, classically trained cellist Danny Grab, bassist and producer Joshua Rumer, and Mia Barcia-Colombo on backup vocals. Their sound draws on several musical genres including folk, Americana, jazz, pop, and rock. Soft unconventional guitar progressions matched by equally unconventional cello licks, mixed in with an array of percussion styles and spacey synthesizers, sets this group apart from the mainstream. Formed in Santa Monica, California in 2009, Meekos & Me is bursting on the scene with superbly crafted musical arrangements and well versed lyrics. Their debut album, "Anxious Little Turtles" is available now.

The band was named after a mascot, a hamster named Meekos, that was Joey's main man in his college years. Upon relocating to LA to pursue music he ran into Grab bowing that cello a few doors down. He immediately tracked the sounds as if a hungry nose was on the prowl for a freshly baked pie alone and unguarded on a window sill. The two joined forces to hash out some tracks Colando had written about the past few years of his life.

As they had no doubt that their sound was something unique, they sought out a producer. They presented their tracks in the producer's living room and the room filled with brilliance. Joshua immediately agreed that the vibe, sound and material needed to be all dressed up for the prom.

They began preproduction in late 2010 and released the album at the prestigious Hotel Cafe to a standing room only audience.

The group is preparing for a west coast tour embarking on more of a spiritual quest with business as the major attention grabber. Sunny Socal will have to do without them for a few months but it wouldn't be fair to everyone else to just keep it in the 323, you know?

Stay tuned and we hope to see you at a show. Please sign up for our mailing list if you dig the music.

Peace.
