Bio

“Meese is what those college radio station in the USA would be playing - if we were back in the mid-nineties; and amassing instantaneous approval from this side of the globe” – New Zealand Music Commission

After two years of amassing a loyal fan base and genuine artistic rapport, Meese are preparing to release their debut album later this month. Meese, consisting of Alex Angrignon (guitar/vocals/songwriting), Sophie van der Linden (bass), and Sam Harper (drums), are just putting the final touches on their album that will hopefully build upon their fan base and get their music heard by more people than ever.

Recorded at Devonport’s infamous DepotSound studio by producer Mark Howden, the album, ‘Pieces Of You, Pieces Of Meese’, consists of twelve totally original songs, each providing a glimpse into who the band are. Melodic, hardbroken, upbeat, nostalgiac, disdainful, the album crosses the broadest range of emotions. Drawing on influences from 90s college-rock in artists like Built To Spill, Pavement, Modest Mouse, and modern emo like American Football, Bright Eyes, and contempories like Street Chant, Wilberforces, and Rackets. It also features a guest star from local hero Oscar Davies-Kay on tracks 1/5/8 on bass. Key tracks include Daze On TV, Dead End Song, Qwell, and suggested single Waiting For A Holiday.

Why is this newsworthy? This young band has been penned as the next big thing in alternative guitar pop. Appearing on such compilations as Pressure To Be – 18 And Under by Papaiti Records, and Greatest Hits by long time fans Tally Ho! Magazine, the band amassed a large and loyal following in their previous moniker Sidewalk Meese that have followed them after their release lineup change.

So far, leaked version of the album have garnered serious radio play on the New Zealand indie radio circuit, leaving the band unable to expect what will come on the albums formal release, due for the 16th of September. Following that, the band are throwing a huge release party, playing the album in its entirety at The Snake Pit on Auckland’s High St on the 23rd of September with fellow releasees Beach Pigs and up and comers Lion Eyes.
