"Vivid Eye, DUTCH, Neon and the Meate Dreams, Meet the Blue @ Rancho"

Listening to Meet the Blue I found myself thinking of Nightbox without having any clue whatsoever that Meet the Blue was also from Ireland. Crazy coincidence. This will be a solo electro-pop set instead of the full band of bandcamp but make no mistake you are wanting to come out early for this one! - BlogTO

"Isz Reviews - Meet The Blue - EP"

Irish-born, Toronto-based Darragh O'Sullivan and Paul Cosgrave make up the brand new indie/new wave duo, Meet the Blue, who just released their first self-titled EP in July. After touring for much of 2011, they began work on their debut with engineer Darius Szczepaniak (with album credits ranging from Moxy Früvous, to Big Sugar, to Pocket Dwellers), they exited the studio with a catchy, danceable, well balanced record capable of satisfying a multitude of tastes.

Rife with driving beats, Alex Kapranos-esque vocals, and that ineffably different sound that bands from across the pond seem so good at doing, it would be right at home in anybody's indie rock library. Throwbacks to older new wave acts like The Psychedelic Furs and New Order wouldn't be inappropriate associations to make, while bright guitar tones (REALLY bright tones), quicker tempos, and an ever-so-slightly more aggressive edge make it sound more current. The brightness and staccato of the main chords and jumpy, chime-like backup melodies do well together with the dance beats. The opening track, "Flux," gives a good sense of what the record is like without giving too much away--as songs like "Take Your Shot," with it's simple but bombastic and intense riffage take things up a notch. Finally, not finished yet, "Chase Her" will surprise you by blowing your speakers with a crass, fuzzy synth.

Still, there's a good sense of cohesion and signature style in general without feeling like each song sounds the same as the last. A uniqueness that sets them apart doesn't keep them from being accessible to others--mixing tried and tested sounds but with no shortage of musical prowess or direction. A strong break-out EP, and good old-fashioned fun. With the summer half over, this should definitely be on your playlists to dance the rest of August away. "Shut Up and Dance," indeed. - Indie round table

"CMW review: Day 2 and 3 by Idio Teque Meet The Blue - March 20th @Gladstone"

Meet The Blue - March 20th @Gladstone

I'll admit, this is the first time I ever made my way the North Ballroom at The Gladstone Hotel, and it was somewhat at a whim. Wednesday night of CMW didn't have a whole lot that caught my eye, but this show had a few bands from Europe so it seemed like a worthwhile event to attend. This is what's listed on the CMW website about Meet The Blue:

"Meet the blue are an alternative indie duo from Ireland, the band has been in existence in some way or another since the beginning of time. Playing shows and house parties in Ireland, self releasing demos and singles and finally releasing their debut EP in 2012 after a busy year of shows and recording in Toronto. Meet The Blue is Darragh O' Sullivan (guitar/vocals/synth) and Paul Cosgrave (drums) The band is currently working on a follow up EP."

Originally from Ireland, they've made their home in Toronto recently, and while there were not a whole lot of people at The Gladstone, they definitely rocked out hard and brought to mind such power duos as DFA1979 for those of you who like comparisons. While not the most original thing I've ever heard, hearing an Irish voice bellowing is not something you'll see often in Toronto. Definitely a band to look out for in 2013. - www.musicpsychos.com
