Just me singing sweet tunes - usually about things that have gone sour.

Biography

Megan is a born entertainer who mixes her interest in the details of the ordinary with insight, humour and a passion for music. A Brisbane based artist, she has a reputation as a singer who delivers with an interesting combination of power and palette. Her approach is fresh, imaginative and sometimes just a little cheeky.

With music that has elements of bluegrass, jazz and blues, this country singer/songwriter combines her rich cultural heritage with a love of story telling that is inspired by the people around her, usually a glass of wine and the river she was raised on.

Graduating from the CMAA College of Country Music in 2008 Megan’s songwriting skills have truly blossomed. She recently attended the songwriting retreat The best of the US in OZ where she not only became a sought-after collaboration partner but also gained the attention and admiration of Grammy nominated writer, performer and producer Wendy Waldman.

The daughter of a musician, she grew up on a diet of Dwight Yoakam, Roy Orbison, Elvis, Willie and Waylon… and even Gershwin, Grieg and Puccini. Megan admits her music is also strongly influenced by Troy Cassar-Daley, Randy Travis, Neil Finn, Nina Simone, Patty Griffin, Tamara Stewart, Jack White, Trisha Yearwood, Paul Kelly and The Waifs.

“I love a good, clever turn of phrase, a melody that melts in your mouth and stories that could be about someone you might know... or want to know! And when someone says they have a song that I wrote stuck in their head... that definitely puts a smile on my dial!”

Megan has been performing since the age of 6 in choirs, orchestras, musical theatre and bands. She has trained in classical piano and flute and has performed in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House. A regular guest at country music clubs around Queensland, Megan always draws a crowd wherever she plays in Tamworth, and her music can currently be heard on local community radio in South East Queensland.

Her goal is to write songs that become part of people’s lives – and to one day be the answer to a question on Spicks and Specks. In 2009, Megan is looking forward to the release of her debut EP and sharing her songs with new audiences and old friends.

Lyrics

Lonesome Town

Written By: Megan L Cooper

Chorus
Nothing on my agenda, nothing to see me through
I’m just stuck here in lonesome town, waiting for you

Verse one
Its been nothing but wine and wallowing since you walked out of the door
I haven’t left the house for days, oh I want you more
You said you had to go and find yourself so you just walked out one night
Now all I got are three chords and the truth I’ve got to put things right
Nothing on my agenda, nothing to see me through
I’m just stuck here in lonesome town waiting for you

Verse two
The girls tried to take me out on the town tried to turn my world around
‘Honey he’s a fool for leaving you’ just gets me even further down
Baby if you’re feeling polite just call me, if you miss me right me a letter
But if you love me come on home, we can make it better

Nothing on my agenda, nothing to see me through
I’m just stuck here in lonesome town waiting for you

Verse three
I’m still making plans for you and I, I thought you were my pot of gold
But baby chasing your rainbow all over town is making me feel real old
Well lonesome town is surrounded by desert but its raining my heart
These big ol’ clouds keep following me around, I gotta make a brand new start

Nothing on my agenda, nothing to see me through
I’m just stuck here in lonesome town waiting for you

Chorus
Cos I got nothing on my agenda, I can find things to do
Why should I stay in lonesome town waiting for you

Final chorus
I’ve taken you off my agenda, I’m strong enough to see this through,
why should I stay in this here lonesome town I’m not waiting for you

I Know What You Did Last Night

Written By: Megan Cooper, Tiffney Stroh

Something just doesn't feel right
I didn't hear you climb the stairs til the morning light
When you said you would be home I left on the light
Baby a dozen roses won't make it alright
And I know what you did last night.

Don't waste your sugar talking on me.
Every corner of your mouth is dripping with honey.
Don't feed me those lies, baby that you built, ain't no aftershave'll up your guilt
And I know what you did last night

I know what you did last night
I know what you did last night
THere's no where to hide baby I've got my pride and I know what you did last night

Your last supper will be a bowl of regret
I could think about forgiving but I'll never forget
You've been sneaking round town breaking every rule
Thinking I was blind but now look who's the fool
And I know what you did last night

I know what you did last night
I know what you did last night
THere's no where to hide baby I've got my pride and I know what you did last night

I know what you did last night
I know what you did last night
THere's no where to hide baby I've got my pride and I know what you did last night

She travels north

Written By: M Cooper, E Carton, L Forrer

There’s a girl who leaves her home
Every summer she travels north
With the steam in the air, and her feet are bare,
Her skin is fair, no one knows her there
She travels north

She travels north
She travel north

See this girl when she’s home
All the boys round the bar sing “Hello-y Chloe!”
Then she chats them up, chew them up, spits them out
Wipes the corner of her mouth and turns around
When she’s done she travels north

She travels north
She travels north

See this girl they call Chloe
No one’s seen her around for a while
Once again dispatched the men the girl fled the town
When the law found her door their jaws they hit the ground
If you thought Snow Town was bad you should see her back yard.

She travels north
She travels north

There’s a girl who leaves her home
Every summer

She travels north
She travels north
She travels north
She’s travelling north

Justin

Written By: M Cooper, E Carton

Dammit tell me Justin
Why’d you have to call?
We’ve been here before, love
No good comes of us at all

Take me now Justin
You’ve got me standing at your door
Yes I gave in, love
I keep coming back for more

You keep saying you need to be free
You chose the lights of the stage over being with me
But now I find I’m chained to memory
And when you touch me I don’t wanna be free

(Instrumental)

You keep saying you need to be free
You chose the lights of the stage over being with me
But now I find I’m chained to memory
And when you touch me I don’t wanna be free

I don’t wanna leave your driveway
I don’t want to break the spell
As I leave this night behind me
I’ll be back Justin, I can tell

Dammit tell me Justin
Why’d you have to call?
We’ve been here before, love
No good comes of us

Go Child

Written By: M Cooper, K Bowden

I feel the breeze blow
I hear the trees moan
They whisper why are you so low girl
There are infinite possibilities in this world

So go child, live well child
Take it as it comes, run with it and you’ll see
You know child, when trouble you find
You got to fall before you find your feet.

I know in my mind’s eye
I’ve struggled time after time
But the sun shines and I know I not alone
Oh, love will find you on its own

So go child, live well child
Take it as it comes, run with it and you’ll see
You know child, when trouble you find
You got to fall before you find your feet.

So go child, live well child
Take it as it comes, run with it and you’ll see
You know child, when trouble you find
You got to fall before you find your feet.

So go child, live well child
Take it as it comes, run with it and you’ll see
You know child, when trouble you find
You got to fall before you find your feet.

Fall before you find your feet

All in good time

Written By: M Cooper, E Carton

I had my red top on you said I was smoking hot
We were at that bar again, you ordered us some shots
Then you tried to say goodbye
Some random skirt had caught your eye

I should’ve realised the writing was on the wall
I should’ve read the signs you’ve done this all before
But I was in denial
You played me like a child

You said you liked me had be walking your line
But with all your other girls I’m just wasting my time

You’ll get yours, but I’ll get mine all in good time
You’ve had your and I’ll have mine all in good time

You threw your smile at me and asked if we’d stay friends
I took one long hard look and asked if I’d have you
Again
Never again

You said you liked me had be walking your line
But with all your other girls I’m just wasting… my time!

You’ll get yours, but I’ll get mine all in good time
You’ve had your and I’ll have mine all in good time

(Instrumental)

You said you liked me had be walking your line
But with all your other girls I’m just wasting… my time!

You’ll get yours, but I’ll get mine all in good time
You’ve had your and I’ll have mine all in good time

You’ll get yours, but I’ll get mine all in good time
You’ve had your and I’ll have mine all in good time

All in good time
All in good time
