Bio

Megan is a born entertainer who mixes her interest in the details of the ordinary with insight, humour and a passion for music. A Brisbane based artist, she has a reputation as a singer who delivers with an interesting combination of power and palette. Her approach is fresh, imaginative and sometimes just a little cheeky.

With music that has elements of bluegrass, jazz and blues, this country singer/songwriter combines her rich cultural heritage with a love of story telling that is inspired by the people around her, usually a glass of wine and the river she was raised on.

Graduating from the CMAA College of Country Music in 2008 Megan’s songwriting skills have truly blossomed. She recently attended the songwriting retreat The best of the US in OZ where she not only became a sought-after collaboration partner but also gained the attention and admiration of Grammy nominated writer, performer and producer Wendy Waldman.

The daughter of a musician, she grew up on a diet of Dwight Yoakam, Roy Orbison, Elvis, Willie and Waylon… and even Gershwin, Grieg and Puccini. Megan admits her music is also strongly influenced by Troy Cassar-Daley, Randy Travis, Neil Finn, Nina Simone, Patty Griffin, Tamara Stewart, Jack White, Trisha Yearwood, Paul Kelly and The Waifs.

“I love a good, clever turn of phrase, a melody that melts in your mouth and stories that could be about someone you might know... or want to know! And when someone says they have a song that I wrote stuck in their head... that definitely puts a smile on my dial!”

Megan has been performing since the age of 6 in choirs, orchestras, musical theatre and bands. She has trained in classical piano and flute and has performed in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House. A regular guest at country music clubs around Queensland, Megan always draws a crowd wherever she plays in Tamworth, and her music can currently be heard on local community radio in South East Queensland.

Her goal is to write songs that become part of people’s lives – and to one day be the answer to a question on Spicks and Specks. In 2009, Megan is looking forward to the release of her debut EP and sharing her songs with new audiences and old friends.
