SHIFTING GEARS

SHE CUT HER HAIR
GOT A BRAND NEW DRESS
SAID I’M TIRED OF LIVING UNDER COVER LIKE THIS
I MET A MAN, THOUGHT I MIGHT SETTLE DOWN
BUT THEN AGAIN MAYBE, THERE’S ANOTHER TOWN

THE TOP IS DOWN, AND I’M DRIVING SHIFTING GEARS
WIND LIKE WAVES BREAKIN’ CROSS MY EARS
THE SUN IS HIGH, AND I MIGHT GO FOR MILES
WITH THE TOP DOWN, DRIVING, SMILING, SHIFTING GEARS

THE BOTTLE’S RUN DRY
NOW THE SMOKE HAS CLEARED
SHE’S BEEN STRIPPED AWAY OF ALL THE LIVING YEARS
SHE SAYS I DON’T FEEL LIKE SLEEPING
AND I CAN’T SIT STILL
I’M TREMBLING WITH IMPATIENCE BECAUSE I FINALLY FOUND MY WILL

THE TOP IS DOWN, AND I’M DRIVING SHIFTING GEARS
WIND LIKE WAVES BREAKIN’ CROSS MY EARS
THE SUN IS HIGH, AND I MIGHT GO FOR MILES
WITH THE TOP DOWN, DRIVING, SMILING, SHIFTING GEARS

IT’S NOT TOO OFTEN THAT I’VE SEEN THE MORNING SUN
I HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN, I THOUGHT HE WAS THE ONE
BUT EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR SMILE
I KNOW I’VE COME A THOUSAND MILES
SO I HOLD ON
I’LL KEEP HOLDING ON
HOLDING ON, HOLDING ON, I’M HOLDING IN ON

CHORUS…
REPEAT, AND FADE

Waiting

Waiting

(verse1)
I’ve been standing on the side of this road
Watching the cars drive by
Oh it’s dusty, and I’m feeling cold
I think I missed my ride

(verse 2)
I’ve got this man I love
I’ve got everything but time
But this is longing like I’ve never known
To think I missed my ride

(chorus)
You spend your whole life waiting
Waiting to be ready
Now you’re ready waiting
And it might have passed you by

(verse 3)
Through every morning fog
I see the headlights shine
And I will hustle just to get a nod
Could I have missed my ride

(chorus)
You spend your whole life waiting
Waiting to be ready
Now you’re ready waiting
And it might have passed you by

(bridge)
you’re happy to be grateful
for everything you’ve learned
you’re grateful to be happy
when life can seem so cruel

(chorus)
You spend your whole life waiting
Waiting to be ready
Now you’re ready waiting
And it might have passed you by
