Megan LeFurge

A product of many artistic disciplines, Megan is a self-proclaimed "wordsmith who likes to sing." She spent her childhood drawing pictures, writing poems, reading Roald Dahl, and reflecting in numerous journals. She's always loved music and secretly wished to perform her own music, but for many years from grade school until high school she was content with performing within a group setting with her church and schools choirs and symphonic bands (where she played flute). It wasn't until her early college years where she found the confidence to embrace the singular and vulnerable spotlight and she, literally, found her voice through jazz music.

Although she's just now sinking her teeth into aggressive and professional music making, she's already won awards for excellence in music. In the sixth grade (it starts early, folks) band instructor Mr. Hart awarded her the school's Excellence in Music Award; at the senior ceremony in high school, choir director Mrs. Lynn Branford awarded her Leadership in Music; and just this spring, Dr. Glen Whitehead, director of music at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, awarded her the Excellence in Music Award for the graduating class of 2010. The Visual and Performing Arts department at UCCS later awarded her the Excellence in VAPA award.

With a curiosity cultivated by the world's folk music and a voice developed by jazz stylings and techniques, Megan composes melodic poems to aid her in solving life's mysteries. Her songs have an alt-folk simplicity to them, and her voice is incredibly strong, yet poised and graceful.
