Hold on! You’re saying I have to spend my morning outside, on a beautiful day, in a stunning courtyard, listening to to awesome music……. I love this job. On June 7th, the Berklee Lunch Sessions at the Prudential Center was kicked off by none other than Megan Lui.

This was a great show. Everything was perfect from the slight breeze and the warm sun to way the PA was sweetly amplifying Megan’s smokey soft vocals. Backed by drummer, Dan Drohan, (the same gentleman who drummed for Alicia Lemke) each tune was kept right on track, never overpowering the single guitar strummed by Megan. A mixture of folk and soul, peppered with sweet yet haunting melodies, it was hard to take my eyes and ears off these two. Sadly, this was not the full band on stage, but honestly I would not have known if Megan herself had not told me. It was as if they had prepared these duo orchestrations for months and months Regardless, I will definitely be checking this band out when they are all together. - Zach Wales

Megan Lui Band at Plough and Stars
Posted on June 28, 2011
Hola!

On June 16th I went to see mlui band play at Plough and Stars. It was so great to see my friend from Berklee playing in Cambridge at such a fun location.

The Plough and Stars is a small restaurant and bar located in Cambridge, MA. It is in between the Central Square T stop and Harvard Square T stop on the Red Line. Very easy to get there and definitely worth it. The bar is small however it has a great vibe to it. The staff is friendly and the drinks are fantastic and reasonably priced. I did not try the food but I heard that it’s delicious. I loved the Plough and Stars because it had a very intimate feel and you could sit at the bar and watch the band playing and see perfectly well. I definitely enjoyed the Plough and Stars and will be back there soon!

mlui Band or The Megan Lui Band has wonderful chemistry and they are delightful to watch. You can tell that the entire time they are having fun and truly enjoying just playing music. The entire band is extremely talented and Megan has a beautiful and unique voice. Their original music is unlike anything I have heard lately and is truly a breath of fresh air. I would recommend the band and Megan as a solo act over and over again, especially if you are into music that has a more relaxed vibe. The band even plays some bluesy songs, which complement Megan’s voice beautifully. If you are looking for a unique and talented band definitely check them out!

Band Members:

Megan Lui (voice.guitar)

Dan Drohan (Drums)

Andrew Sarlo (Bass)

Kenji Herbert (Electric Guitar)

They will be playing July 13th at the Precinct Bar in Somerville and July 29th at Out of the Blue Gallery in Cambridge

Below you will find an interview with Megan (we couldn’t round-up the guys/find them for it!) and a couple of songs I recorded at Plough and Stars hopefully you will enjoy them and check out her MySpace link below for more music.

Bio

Originally from Northern California, just outside of Sacramento, megan was raised in a small community dedicated to horses and the preservation of open land.
While studying on and off in Boston for the past 4 years, she met a group of individuals and got involved in the community of Monkey Rock. The community is small but supports one another by promoting and performing as a group. She has been working with them, and with others from the Boston music community, for the past 3 years to throw shows that support the goals of unsigned artists.
She has just put out a 6 song EP - "Wandering Bones" which was recorded with members of the Monkey Rock community at the "Death Star" in South Central L.A.
