"Great live performer"

“A bit of a blend of Patty Griffin, Sarah McLachlan,
and a touch of Shawn Colvin, Ms. Melara is one to be
watched — and listened to. Whether it’s a jazzy pop
tune or soft ballad, her original, insightful lyrics
are delivered by an emotion-driven voice! Only a
handful of people in the music world can truly carry
out a live performance — she’s one of them!”
- New Texas Magazine: Clarisa Marcee, CM Media

"New EP=First Rate Offering"

"Megan Melara's latest EP, 'It's Love', delivers just what you'd expect from Megan - beautiful, evocative songs expressed by one of the richest and most sultry voices on the planet. This batch of songs has just the right backing and harmonies to accentuate Megan's talents without overpowering them. A first rate offering!" - Bruce Newlin/Tres Hombres Music

Born August 22, 1980 in Dallas, Texas, Megan Melara’s love for music came early. As early as 2nd grade, teachers took notice of her natural talent and encouraged her to keep with it. Megan grew up listening to the Beatles, The Guess Who, America, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and many other classic rock artists and folk singers. She considers her main influences to be folk singers and writers such as Patty Griffin and Joni Mitchell, along with blues singers such as Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt. After high school, Megan made the move to Austin, where after obtaining a psychology degree she was finally able to focus on her desire to make singing her life.

Megan dove head first into performing, writing more songs, and building up confidence. With school behind her and only her future ahead, there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel for this new singer - more like a light the whole way through the tunnel. She has steadily made her way into the heart of the Austin music scene by writing insightful, powerfully delivered songs about her experiences- real and imagined, the experiences of others, and the serendipitous nature and universality of everything under the sun. Her voice is one to be reckoned with and definitely not to be missed.

Megan is currently in the studio recording her second full-length album with renowned drummer and producer Merel Bregante (Loggins & Messina, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band). The album will be released early 2008 and will feature Merel Bregante/percussion, Riley Osbourn/keys, Al Garth/fiddle, Alex Adinolfi/electric guitar, John McEuen/banjo & mandolin, Woody Russell/guitar, Kullen Fuchs/unmentionables, Tom Benton/bass, Craig Loschiavo/bass. Megan has been in the studio with Austin legends Stephen Bruton and Malford Milligan, singing on a track with Dale Watson, another local legendary songwriter. Megan recorded background vocals with Woody Russell on his cd, Salt. She has shared the stage with many talented people such as Molly Venter, David Newbould, Warren Hood, Lisa Tingle, Patrice Pike, Cindy Cashdollar, Suzanna Choffel, Aimee Bobruk, Lisa Richards, and Woody Russell, to name a few. She is regularly hired as a background vocalist on several projects around Austin and beyond, singing with artists such as David Newbould, Woody Russell, Will Taylor & Strings Attached featuring Lisa Tingle, Sara Hamman, Molly Venter, and many others. She has also been on commercial recordings for children's songs and television commercials.

Megan recently completed her first tour, a six-week West Coast Tour in the summer of 2007, playing such legendary venues as the Make-Out Room in San Francisco, Hotel Café in Los Angeles opening for Jesca Hoop, Lestat’s in San Diego, among other venues in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado and all the way to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Venues and events she has played in Austin include: Alligator Grill, Austin Fine Arts Festival, Austin Java, Austin Zoo, Baxter’s, Cactus Café, Central Market, Easy Rhino, Fado, Flipnotics, Gat5 Art Studio (East Austin Studio Tour), Guero’s, Hill’s Café, Lavaca Street Bar, Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cook-off, Maria’s Taco Xpress, Momo’s, Mother Egan’s, Mozart’s, Ross’ Old Austin Café, Ruta Maya, Saxon Pub, Seattle’s Best, Sky Lounge, Southwestern University, Sullivan’s, Stubbs, Ventana del Soul, Y Bar & Grill, Texas Soberfest 2003 and 2004, Trudgefest, and Threadgills. She has also performed in College Station, New York City at the Orange Bear Bar, Cupping Room Café, and The Back Fence, and she plays regularly in Dallas at Opening Bell as well as her annual Day-After-Christmas show at the legendary Poor David’s Pub in Dallas. She also played at the first San Antonio Indie Fest in 2007.

Currently, Megan’s first video, “Fool In Love”, is airing on the Austin Music Network.
