Megan Shorey

Megan Shorey

BandJazzSinger/Songwriter

Megan is no delicate answer to Australian female songwriting, skillfully wrapping some of life’s hardest questions in one of the most passionate sounds your likely to hear for a long time, Megan wields the grand piano like a weapon, in this newly defined world of Contemporary Jazz and Cabaret.

Biography

Megan Shorey was once discribed as the lost sister of Diamanda Galas and Tori Amos, but this operatically trained Australian performer brings a vocal passion to her works unlike another.
In her 2006 European Festival debut 'The Noorderzon Festival' (Holland) embraced Megan Shorey with a headline status that saw her show sell out within the first day of ticket sales. Tales of eager festival goers standing in line for over 70 minutes for a prized ticket ensured a highly anticipated show with standing room only. As the ovations and encores promised, Megan’s EP ‘The Live Session’ also sold out within minutes.

As Megan raises her sometimes ugly head her honesty may confront, but you will without a doubt be moved... or at least be challenged to do so.

::REVIEWS::

"The stage is set simply; one grand piano and one truly talented performer. Shorey welcomes the audience with a delicately boisterous voice, her femininity oozing from every ounce of her being.
She takes issues of human emotion and experience and puts words to the sometimes unspeakable. Expressing that there is too much "bullshit made polite," Shorey's rawness made the audience, sit quiet with ease and admiration."
Melbourne Fringe Festival

"It was great having Megan headline at our Festival’s Spiegeltent season. She is not only a
great performer, but also a wonderfully warm personality, which
communicates itself easily and quickly to those listening. The audience
took to her immediately, with her highly personal mix of original songs, and
stories to explain what has inspired them. Charming, but also gutsy and
heart-felt.
A polished performer of her own
beautiful songs - this is an easy one to recommend."
Mark Yeoman – Director Noorderzon Theatre Crossover Festival, The Netherlands

“Megan Shorey is a very kind and gentle woman who sings about the many aspects of life. I loved her concert, her classically trained voice and the sparkling piano chords. The themes in her songs were very recognisable and sometimes confronting to me. Through her music Megan shows that beauty can be found everywhere, also in very difficult circumstances. I look forward to her next concert in the Netherlands!”
Johan Brouwer – Expose Communications, The Netherlands.
