"CD Review"

We've heard plenty of disillusionment from singer/songwriters over the years, but there are certain people who make it go down easier. When Meg Braun wraps her big, buttery alto around the bittersweet lines, “Remember how we used to drive in your daddy's car / for miles and miles, though we never got very far / We'd park and lie outside under the stars / believing, believing, in our dreams...” and “When it's over, you'll know, 'cause you won't miss his voice in the hallway...” we believe everything she says. While the CD ends on a postive note with “After 'Ever After,'” we like the sad, dramatic stuff better. Her writing keeps getting better and better. Definitely someone to watch.

Bio

Meg Braun is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter known for her fearless writing, dynamic vocal style and performances that have charmed audiences from California to Texas and throughout the Northeast.

The Toledo, Ohio native arrived in New York with her diploma and the hopes of building a career in non-profit advocacy. What she found instead, was admission into the Citys vibrant creative class. While living in Manhattans East Village, Meg covered for a friend one Tuesday evening as host of the open mic at the legendary C-Note. Immediately, she knew she had found her place. When the host position opened up shortly thereafter, Meg gladly took the helm and guided for years what became a weekly salon of sorts, welcoming a distinctive collection of songwriters. As host, Meg encouraged writers to share new songs each week, and gradually built a community that inspired its members toward sharper skills and wider success.

Finally, after spending time working on her craft in peer groups such as the Manhattan Songwriters Circle and SummerSongs songwriting camps, Meg released her first CD, Tomboy Princess in 2009. These tunes have since earned Meg invitations to share the stage with The Kennedys, Catie Curtis, Greg Greenway, and Severin Browne.

In 2011 Meg released her second CD of original songs, Broken Places. Produced by Tom Prasada-Rao in his Richardson, Texas studio, these songs explore the facets of brokenness both in relationships and the world, and how surviving makes us each stronger.

In 2012, her womens songwriting group, known as the Chicks with Dip, released Joni Mitchells Blue: A 40th Anniversary Celebration. On the recording, Meg sings River, Mitchell's wistful Christmas break-up song. They are touring the Northeast and beyond with this recording.

As 2013 is underway, Meg's songwriting has taken off into new places. In July of 2013, "Drunkard's Daughter" a song co-written with neo-traditional singer/songwriter Diana Jones will be featured on Diana's new album "Museum of Applacia Recordings", signifying that the path of Meg's songwriting is one to follow.
