Meghan Halle

 New York, New York, USA
BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Gospel Singer turned Soul Siren performing original, inspiring material with sincerity and power.

Biography

Meghan has been singing for as long as she can remember, but credits her vocal prowess to call and response sessions she shared with her gospel teacher Georgia Louis, an acclaimed performer who Louis Armstrong named as his musical godchild. Ms. Louis, who has shared the stage with Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, Dinah Washington, and the Staple Singers, has said of Meghan She is the best young gospel singer that I have worked with, and she was born with an inner spirit that is just phenomenal.

The majority of Meghans high school years were spent performing gospel music in A.M.E. Churches throughout Connecticut. Gospel gave her the freedom to improvise and engage with an audience instantly in the energy of the moment, skills that permanently influenced her performance style. She has performed at Shea Stadium three times, the first at the age of 14. Meghan has also been asked to collaborate on many recordings, and has recorded a handful of gospel songs which remain unreleased.

She has spent the last three years composing infectious, soulful songs while playing the New York City club circuit either solo on piano, or with her band. Her first full-length solo album entitled, 12th and A has just been released this past December.

Lyrics

Winter Days

Written By: Meghan Halle

The streets are lined with snow
On these cold winter days
But I don't need your love
To keep me warm
The breeze no longer blows
And I'm told it's a phase
Until I see a dove
Soar through the storm

Only time can heal the wounds of love
But I won't wait to move on
You think that I'm hanging on to you
But I can't wait to move on

The days just come and go
In a cold foggy haze
But I don't want your love to keep me warm
I gaze at those who glow
Hope it holds and it stays
They walk with glove in glove
While love is borne

Only time can heal the wounds of love
But I won't wait to move on
You think that I'm hanging on to you
But I can't wait to move on

I used to live in the shadows
And wait for you to come around
I was never happy
Until I stopped running from my fear

Only time can heal the wounds of love
But I won't wait to move on
You think that I'm hanging on to you
But I can't wait to move on.

Home

Written By: Meghan Halle

I would sit on top of the trees and just hear the rustling
I would get down on my own knees
and just heed the howling
Dying in suburbian hell and my flesh is cooling
Dying in this lonely spell and the frost is coming

There's no such place as home

Pacing this circular cell and my tread is wearing
Pacing yet no one can tell how long I've been treading
I have built the walls up myself and there's no escaping
They have been built swiftly in stealth and I've been mistaken

Dreamscapes mold
me urban gold
Even though I've no
place to call home

No place to call home.

What's Going On

Written By: Meghan Halle

If you ask for my number
And proceed not to call
Well I’d like to know
Why did you, why did you ask at all

If you think that by waiting
I’ll want you that much more
Well just so you know
I’m heading, I’m heading for the door

Pick up the phone
And let me know
What’s going on
I don’t condone
Well you know
What’s going on

I can handle rejection
So don’t string me along
I ought to know
What is, what’s going on

Pick up the phone
And let me know
What’s going on
I don’t condone
Well you know
What’s going on

The games you play
Call for two
But I won’t stay
And be your fool
So don’t you think
That I’m falling for
The lines you’re feeding me

I don’t need a proposal
Or dinner on the green
A nice cup o’ Joe
Is all I, All that I need

Pick up the phone
And let me know
What’s going on
I don’t condone
Well you know
What’s going on

What’s going on
What’s going on
What’s going on
What’s going on

Why Must You Burn

Written By: Meghan Halle

Don’t you want to stick around
If not for me
Turn those eyes outward
See what I see
You don’t want to dimly fade
Why must you burn
Always rushing time
When it’s not your turn

Why must you burn

If you find the love I gave
Take it on home
Fill your heart with it
As solid as stone

I could not keep you away
From your own flame
And I can’t keep hoping
That your mind will change
Will you ever stand in awe
Of what is gone
Love your life as much
As each of your songs

Why must you burn

If you find the love I gave
Take it on home
Fill your heart with it
As solid as stone

Though our time together’s up
I pray for you
To feel the fire
Just enough to glow

Why must you burn

The Longest Day

Written By: Meghan Halle

The longest day
Brought a sweet awakening
It was that day
That I met you
Not much was said
I don’t know where it’s going
The longest day
Always comes when it’s due

The deepest stare
I couldn’t keep from blushing
On that autumn day
When you touched me
But you won’t stay close
And I’m tired of the teasing
The sparks are there
Let’s see what this could be

How long must I wait
How long must I wonder
I can’t wait for fate
When I’m drowning under
The longest day

The hardest day
Is lived in always knowing
That nothing stays
And old soon turns new
But there is hope
In these moments of reflection
And so I cope
With curiosity

How long must I wait
How long must I wonder
I can’t wait for fate
When I’m drowning under
The longest day

Just find a way
To say what you’re feeling
There’s no wrong way
To honesty
It takes much more
Than a wink and a smile
They open doors
But temporarily

How long must I wait
How long must I wonder
I can’t wait for fate
When I’m drowning under
The longest day
