Bio

Faintly echoing through operatic vocal harmonies and hybrid arrangements of synthesizers, piano and organic materials, self-taught Mekele began using his voice as a multifaceted instrument at a young age. Influenced by artists such as Cocteau Twins, Peter Gabriel and Aaliyah, Mekele is on an
ongoing musical and visual experiment through pop music, frequency healing and psychedelia.

Mekele launched his second EP 'Nocturne' in December 2012. The EP was presented on an all encompassing interactive website (www.mekele-nocturne.com) merging both sight and sound. Each song from Nocturne was connected to a visual carefully crafted by Mekele, art director Melissa Matos (Trusst) and a vast array of creative collaborators. A summation of a year of collaborations, Nocturne represented Mekele’s musical and visual sensibilities in contemporary art, pop culture and design.

Since then, Mekele scored Rad Hourani’s latest haute couture fashion show (Paris) in collaboration with Montreal-based producer Jacques Greene. Consequentially, Jacques Greene recently named Mekele “Favorite New Artist” on Pitchfork.com.

His musical sensibilities have also led to various multi-disciplinary collaborations, creating original soundtracks for fashion designers Rad Hourani, J.W.Anderson, Christian L'Enfant Roi, shown in New York, Paris, London, Montreal (respectively) which has harnessed the attention of international media in Dazed and Confused, Vogue.it, Chasseur Magazine and SSENSE.

Upcoming :
