This record is a beautiful surprise. A record of French songs transformed in jazz standards thanks to Giovanni Mirabassi's arranging. - Dernières Nouvelles du Jazz

2008: La Princesse Et Les Croque-Notes (LP - Cristal Records)

Mélanie Dahan transforms -without nostalgia- beautiful French songs in standards of jazz. From "Lost Ball" to "The princess and the big shoes", her unique voice gives birth to these ritornellos, "for a long time, a long time, after the poets have gone". She revisits some famous or not much known texts from Brassens (for whom that she borrows almost word-for-word the title of his album), Dimey, Nougaro, Aznavour and she even dare to cover Ferré!
She is supported by the pianist of jazz Giovanni Mirabassi in this first album. We could also recall her album solo "Avanti" improvised in some revolutionary singings and his victory of jazz in 2002. Today this is a pianist of jazz with an international dimension. With them, Marc-Michel Le Bévillon on Double Bass, Matthieu Chazarenc on drums, and Pierrick Pédron on saxophone who is invited in two tracks. Not any jarring note for this purified quartet. The Princess and her Big-shoes show us a subtle jazz, approaching with art and elegance the repertoire of the "true" French chanson in which she gives us an invigorate bath of youth!
