Bio
Hi there. My name is Melanie Macfarlane and I have no idea what I am doing.
I write from the heart, always, which often results in a messy and conflicted yet warm and relatable songs. I began writing songs in high school and while studying science at university bought my first guitar. I have been fumbling along ever since, making mistakes and climbing out as I went along.
Most of my songs come from my life experiences or those of the people around me. Music gives me the courage to say things and process emotions that I might otherwise be too afraid to face. I see songs in every situation and as I have grown up I have found them in some of the strangest places.
My musical influences are as vast and varied as my own songs. I grew up listening to acapella boy bands and musical theatre until I grew into punk, emo and folk. My own work has a country feel, mostly because I grew up on the border of suburbia and country Victoria and because I love the narrative structure that the genre allows. I hope you enjoy my songs.
