Melanie Reno's College "Lush" Tour!!
5 Abusive Years of Alcohol & Parties

Comedienne Melanie Reno is most known for her recent appearances on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and GSN National Lampoon’s Funny Money. Melanie grew up in Orange County, California in a loving home with Mom and Dad, a cheerleading older sister and a Golden Retriever. She first started making people laugh as a goofball on her soccer teams. Melanie was a four year varsity high school star soccer player as well as Track and Field. She went on to play Division I Women’s Soccer at San Diego State University.

However, Melanie soon found a sport she liking even better than soccer…drinking! So, she quit the team and joined a sorority. She was having the time of her life. Quickly though, she found that she could not seem to control the amount of alcohol she consumed or how it affected her. Melanie started having regular alcohol blackouts where she experienced all of the pitiful and demoralizing experiences that come with them. She tried to set limits and “drink like a lady,” but could never seem to accomplish that, no matter how much she wanted to. After bad drinking episodes escalated to dangerous levels, Melanie finally reached out for professional help.

It’s been almost three years now and life has been an adjustment to say the least for Melanie, but she feels that quitting drinking was the best decision she ever made. She has learned to accept that alcohol just affects her differently than most of her friends. She has also spent a lot of time rebuilding the self-esteem she feels was severely damaged through the course of her abusive drinking. Today, Melanie leads a happy productive life again filled with good friends, family, performing comedy and lots of “extra-curricular” activities like marathon running, backpacking, skiing and service work.

Melanie hopes that by sharing her story, like only she can with humor and sincerity, she may help other young women and men identify dangerous drinking habits in themselves. There is a lot of research that describes what abusive drinking can do to your health, but Melanie focuses more on what it did to her spirit.
