Melanie's Waiting

Melanie's Waiting

 Chicago, Illinois, USA
BandPopRock

MW isn’t anyone’s tribute band. In fact, you won’t hear anything you know. But we know you and your audience will love everything you hear. Classic, edgy pop, featuring melodic guitars, unique drum patterns, and solid harmonies. Trading off lead vocals between the four, each song is a new surprise.

Biography

Melanie’s Waiting...

Their Music is…
Original, melodic, accessible, driving, hopeful, fun. The band explores the depth and complexity of issues that affect us all, in songs that appeal to a wide and diverse audience.

Their Sound is…
Classic pop. Influenced by many musical greats, from the Beatles and the Pretenders, to Neil Finn and the Indigo Girls. The band combines intelligent lyrics with catchy pop melodies and soaring harmonies. All four take turns on lead vocals.

They are veterans of the Chicago-area music scene…
Melanie’s Waiting are no strangers to the studio, having one EP to their credit, “The Band Next Door,” released in 2004. They also have a rock/pop album in progress. Chicago area venues that they have played include The Heartland Café, Uncommon Ground, Beat Kitchen, Gunther Murphy’s, multiple Borders Books and Music locations, Phyllis’s Musical Inn, and various Chicago neighborhood festivals.

Their history is…
Unique. They formed to write an original folk opera in 1998. Their first practice space was the basement of an old convent. They have done rock and acoustic pop with passion and excitement. The founding members – Ellen, Jen, and Joe – have weathered the storms of change, from losing and gaining band members, to facing the many relationship challenges of being in a creative endeavor together. Jeff joined in the Spring of 2005.

Their attitudes are…
Straightforward and professional. Their persistence and commitment to each other and their original music is steady and true. The band members resist the influence of the drugs and excessive drinking that seem to go hand in hand with the club “scene”.

And the band members are…
Prolific. They have an impressive and varied library of songs now, and are making forays into the larger music industry. They have made progress toward song placement in movies and television as well as writing on demand for various projects. They have designed and built their own studio and are continuously working on new material to record and perform.

Lyrics

Kaleidoscope

Written By: Jeff Churchwell

I dropped my battered soul
Into a rabbit hole.
No one admonished me to hurry after.

I led my weary mind
Through ruin and decline.
No one suggested I might want it later.

There is a form of rejection so pure
That it feels just like liberation.
A gram of prevention, or a kilo of cure;
I'd give a lot for some sensation.

White light might look like hope
Through a kaleidoscope.
Without the glamour, much less satisfying.

To the un-jaundiced eye,
Moonlight might mystify.
Me, I'm a cynic, I'm much more demanding.

What is the difference between diamond and coal?
A million years of heat and pressure.
So where's my payoff, where's my sparkling soul?

I sense her hesitation.
I hear the pregnant pause.
Can't stand to hear what's coming,
But she'll still say it, "just because."
The truth that she's proclaiming
One day may set me free,
But only I can take this weight from me.

I left a long reply
On her machine last night.
Her essay questions have been asked and answered.

I left her room for hope,
And my kaleidoscope.
Don't ever ask to see the truth unvarnished.

There was a point,
But damned if I can recall.

I sense her hesitation.
Still hear the pregnant pause.
She's dialing up the drama,
So she can bask in self-applause.
The truth that she's proclaiming
One day may set me free,
But only I can lift this weight up...

I'm shrugging off confusion.
Rewriting natural laws.
Can't miss the resolution;
It thrills me even as it awes.
And if the meek inherit,
Or struggle endlessly,
Is not of any consequence to me.

No rabbit hole's where I belong.

Goodbye

Written By: Joseph Nemec

Time feels so bent and twisted
I sleep to try and miss it
My life seems so scattered
like a glass that has been shattered

Here lies my darkened flower
drowned in a drunken hour
Won’t bloom for me again
no middle, just the lonely end

Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye

Her words knew no fear
last rites for a deafened ear
I know that you’re not around
ghosts don’t talk, but they make sound

No matter how far or fast that I drive
no speed could bring her alive
She was lost, so I have found
inch for inch, pound for pound

Goodbye (I’d like to go home)
Goodbye (I’m left all alone)
Goodbye (It’s time to let go)
Goodbye

Now that you’re gone I will never know
The other side that you did not show
Like Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde
Too much of us / bottled up inside

I realize I’m not ready to die
I like when, what and sometimes why
I can’t let my life stand still
Left to cool on the windowsill

Goodbye (I’d like to go home)
Goodbye (I’m left all alone)
Goodbye (It’s time to let go)
Goodbye

Stay Around

Written By: Ellen Goode

These days a haze has been hangin’ ‘round you
You try to fly but the sky confounds you
No roads have led to your destination
You’re down and out of imagination

Then you know you don’t know what to do
Simon doesn’t say and Robert has no rules

When you fall from your grace,
there’s always something catching you
Stay around and you’ll face
the way your life’s not matchin’ you
Soon enough you will know
how to find your deeper ground
Just because you stay around

Inside you hide what you’re really thinkin’
We soothe your mood, but it doesn’t sink in
You need to find truth you haven’t spoken
We’re there to hear, find the part that’s broken

Then you know you don’t know what to do
Simon doesn’t say and Robert has no rules

When you fall from your grace,
there’s always something catching you
Stay around and you’ll face
the way your life’s not matchin’ you
Soon enough you will know
how to find your deeper ground
Just because you stay around

Just because you stay around

Just because you stay around

She Won't Give In

Written By: Ellen Goode and Mark Burns

She's been round and round
and where she stops nobody knows
She's been lost and found
and she wears the emperor's new clothes
She paints some pretty pictures
but frames them all in black and red
She brings her sorrow with her her,
screams and tears are hardly shed

She will not reach, she cannot cry
she never stops to wonder why

She will not love, she cannot hate
she never takes the hand of fate

She will not lose, she cannot win
she never lets herself give in

She makes all the difference
but thinks that things will never change
She always tries to listen
but in the end does things her way
She brings her troubles to me
but cannot bear to know I'm here
She says she'll make some changes
but things go on another year

She will not reach, she cannot cry
she never stops to wonder why

She will not love, she cannot hate
she never takes the hand of fate

She will not lose, she cannot win
she never lets herself give in

She's been round and round
and where she stops nobody knows

Step Along The Way

Written By: Ellen Goode

Got the music in me, just to play this song
And it’s so much better, when you play along with me
Will you help me set it free.

Got a hand to give you, on a rocky road
Not afraid to push you, when you move to slow,
do you see
That you’ve made a friend in me

Let the rhythm take us through the night
And in the dawning of a new day
we will try to make it right
Let the music dance us through the day
And when the rhythm meets the rhyme
we’ll be a step along the way

Got a world of worries, and a mind of fears
If I bring them to you, through the months
and years I pray
You’ll be there to point the way

If you think your music, isn’t worth the song
I will help you hear the good,
‘cause it’s been there all along
I will help you make it strong

Let the rhythm take us through the night
And in the dawning of a new day
we will try to make it right
Let the music dance us through the day
And when the rhythm meets the rhyme
we’ll be a step along the way
We’ll be a step along the way…step along the way
We’ll be a step along the way…step along the way
We’ll be a step along the way…

Get Out

Written By: Ellen Goode

You don’t owe me nothin’, except for my whole life
You don’t cause me anything except for pain and strife
The truth is I don’t need you, I’m better off without
And now that I believe it,
the world’s gonna hear me shout,
Just get out, Just get out!

The roads that I have traveled
are the ones that you had paved
When I saw where I was headed for,
I knew I’d lost my way
Now I’ll never take direction
from those on the road to hell,
That’s where I’d send your actions,
and you can go as well
Go to hell, straight to hell

Get out of my life
Get Out of my way
You can save your excuses for another day
Get out of my sight
Get out of my mind
You’re a sorry sample of humankind
And you don’t deserve my time

It’s true that you’ve abused me
in a lot of different ways
But now I can protect myself
and I’m gonna have my say
You think that you can sway me
to believe your point of view
Viewpoints don’t have pull with me
I just believe what’s true
I believe what’s true, I believe what’s true

You hope that I’ll believe them
when you tell me all your lies
And you cling to the false power
of your “full of love” disguise
Well now I see right through you
and I know what you’re full of
It’s true you’re full of something
but it doesn’t smell like love
You don’t love, you don’t love

Get out of my life
Get Out of my way
You can save your excuses for another day
Get out of my sight
Get out of my mind
You’re a sorry sample of humankind
And you don’t deserve my time
