Bio

Melanie’s Waiting...

Their Music is…
Original, melodic, accessible, driving, hopeful, fun. The band explores the depth and complexity of issues that affect us all, in songs that appeal to a wide and diverse audience.

Their Sound is…
Classic pop. Influenced by many musical greats, from the Beatles and the Pretenders, to Neil Finn and the Indigo Girls. The band combines intelligent lyrics with catchy pop melodies and soaring harmonies. All four take turns on lead vocals.

They are veterans of the Chicago-area music scene…
Melanie’s Waiting are no strangers to the studio, having one EP to their credit, “The Band Next Door,” released in 2004. They also have a rock/pop album in progress. Chicago area venues that they have played include The Heartland Café, Uncommon Ground, Beat Kitchen, Gunther Murphy’s, multiple Borders Books and Music locations, Phyllis’s Musical Inn, and various Chicago neighborhood festivals.

Their history is…
Unique. They formed to write an original folk opera in 1998. Their first practice space was the basement of an old convent. They have done rock and acoustic pop with passion and excitement. The founding members – Ellen, Jen, and Joe – have weathered the storms of change, from losing and gaining band members, to facing the many relationship challenges of being in a creative endeavor together. Jeff joined in the Spring of 2005.

Their attitudes are…
Straightforward and professional. Their persistence and commitment to each other and their original music is steady and true. The band members resist the influence of the drugs and excessive drinking that seem to go hand in hand with the club “scene”.

And the band members are…
Prolific. They have an impressive and varied library of songs now, and are making forays into the larger music industry. They have made progress toward song placement in movies and television as well as writing on demand for various projects. They have designed and built their own studio and are continuously working on new material to record and perform.
