Lyrics

puppets

Written By: melie lewis

sing me a circle again and again
repeat the same phrases til they're stuck in my head
a cycle of stories all with the same theme
can't make something new, it's all lost in a dream

forgetful, regretful, the tale of any life
all missing: the feelings; no worries or strife
the jaded, the cynics; the flowers of the world
so different, so special, yet when the petals are unfurled

a likeliness shows when we take to the road
bring with us nothing, but carry a heavy load
the street stretches ahead and follows behind
as forward we go, we don't realize we're blind

ashes to ashes, we all fall down
these fires are burning us to the ground
scatter the remnants away in the wind
hold nothing back; not flexible, can't bend

a crown without jewels, shoes worn at the sole
no sense of what to do to make this being whole
perfected the art of falsehoods and smiles
pretend we don't care as we face all these trials

a likeliness shows when we take to the road
bring with us nothing, but carry a heavy load
the street stretches ahead and follows behind
as forward we go, we don't realize we're blind x2

stare straight ahead, but never look behind
there are no skeletons in your closet for people to find
leave all that you can and forget what you know
life is, after all, one big puppet show

march of the ancients

Written By: melie lewis

empty out the seasoned boxes
old memories and faded crosses
can't remember whose they were
what does it even really matter?
endless time has come and gone
passing faces; smiles and frowns

think of grandpa johnny jones
now nothing more than a pile of bones
all that's left will waste away
every story of his day
lessons were taught and thrown aside
thought needless for our too great pride
but grandpa johnny, i won't let this go
for everyone deserves to know
you lived your life, you went to war
you were a regular at the liquor store
you were haunted by images of all that you saw
'cause you accepted your draft and obeyed the law
you taught us all that you ever learned
yet no appreciation was ever returned
they called you a lush, a cripple, a fool
the last lesson you gave was that life is cruel

so now we...

the man you knew who lived next door
he worked every day and was quite poor
despite it all, he was happy as can be
he saw the sun when there was no light to see
no rain or storm could bring him down
not even the threat of commies in town
the people around him thought him strange
to the point where they called him deranged
yet the day when he wasn't out in his garden
they truly wished they could beg his pardon
too bad, for now it was too late
this kind gentle man had met his fate

and now we...

someday it will be you six feet in the ground
the memories of your life will make no sound
though you were liked and loved and cherished
with you, all these things will have perished
people will speak of you in the past tense
you'll be forgotten, that's just common sense

get a clue

I am the walrus.
I am a rock.
I'm ever-changing,
But constant as a clock.

I am an answer.
I am a riddle.
But really,
I am quite simple.

I'm the road not taken.
The path often seen.
Or perhaps,
I am what lies between.

I am me,
I am you,
I am the entire
Motley crew.

I'm blowin' in the wind.
I'm steady on the ground.
Whatever the case,
I've yet to be found.

I am a phantasy.
I am real life.
I'm the tension in a room
That can be cut with a knife.

I am waiting.
I am in action.
I am running fast as I can,
But my shoes have lost their traction.

I am me,
I am you,
I am the entire
Motley crew.

I am a business man
In a nice suit.
I'm but a minstrel
Playing the flute.

I am imagination
That clouds your mind,
And everything
You strive to find.

I am the byrds
Who outside your window sing;
Always there,
But only in spring.

I am me,
I am you,
I'm the entire
Motley crew.

I am life.
I am death.
I'm what little
You have left.

I am a process.
I am an end.
I'm the walls
You did not mend.

I am new.
I am old.
All you lost
And could not hold.

I am me,
I am you,
I'm the entire
Motley crew.
