Bio

Born in Houston, Texas to Coptic Egyptian parents Melina began singing in church, at age five. She made her professional debut as Nannetta in Falstaff with Opera Pacific in Festa Italiana and the Bridesmaid in the Marriage of Figaro. During the 2000-2001 season she was a member of Portland Opera's Young Artists Program. Most recently, Melina was recognized for her witty interpretation of Adele in New York City's Amato Opera production of Die Fledermaus. A Graduate of California State University, Fullerton, Melina has also enjoyed much success on the concert stage as well as solo recitals in both the United States and Italy.

However, it was a private performance in Los Angeles that first caught the attention of the Pop world and put her on the path to creating an original album. Her ability to fuse her Egyptian background and classical training make her music globally appealing. Melina is a singer/songwriter that writes from her own life experience and is able to express the most subtle of emotions. She is currently collaborating with Nashville producer/songwriter Doug Beiden on her debut album, Salam.

Her Ethno Pop style and range are especially evident in her first single Salam (Arabic for peace).
"I was inspired to write this song with Doug out of my frustration for our confusing troubled times. I wanted a song that would make people happy, yet still, be a calling for peace and participation in making things better. Hence the driving dance rhythms... action makes for a better world." It is also out of this passion that Melina has committed a portion of all her music sales to her favorite charities. As she states on her website www.melinamusic.com, "we can make a difference one note at a time!"
