Biography

Chicago native Melinda Suarez, was born in the lush country of Venezuela. Despite her family’s deep roots in South America they relocated to the States on a quest for spiritual learning. With an eager passion for self-awareness Melinda discovered at a young age that she was attracted to members of the same sex. This knowledge was a catalyst for deeper introspection which led to the discovery of her voice through song writing. She uses her musical process for healing, higher learner and spiritual consciousness raising personally and communally.

Her folk music for the people, infused with jazz tells the story of her Chicago roots. Her bossa nova and latin sounds trace her music like they do her personality and spirit. She is now based out of Toronto and can be booked throughout Canada and the States. Melinda is known for captivating intimate gatherings around the fire, packed in dive bars that surround her as she sings, as well as large audiences on stage at music festivals.

Madison

Madison

She didn’t want to go to Madison
She said it’s too small for me
And I will surely drown them
I just want to be me
But we don’t always know
What we have until we’re gone
But I’ll see you, I'll see you again

And I say by chance for my mother
Oh she taught me well
And I learned to love with an open heart
And I got hurt again
But she taught me to hold my head up high
And I’ll sing, I’m singing again

And my friends oh I see them falling
And I can see them drifting
And I can see them falling
Away, away from me

Now all she wants is Madison
She says it’s enough for me
But now all I got our memories
Oh I’ll hold them dear
And now you hold a place inside my heart
And now I can hold my head up high and sing
Oh I’ll sing, I’m singing again

In the Morning

Written By: Melinda Suarez

In the Morning

Don’t break the sound
Can’t break this smile
Your touch I can’t bare tonight
Don’t say it real loud
I can’t say it all
But I’m head over heels for you

Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
All I want is you
Ooooh
You
Ooooh

Before we go on now
Can I say?
Oh can I say?
How I dream of you
Oh every night and day
To see you again

Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
All I want is you
Ooooh
You
Ooooh

And I know I do wrong
And I know I’m not too strong but
I’d die to lift the sky for you
Doing the best to show
Oh it ebbs and flows
But I keep falling in love with you

Ooooh
Ooooh
Ooooh
All I want is you
Ooooh
You

(Repeat Bridge & Chorus)
Oh baby, in the morning

Better

Written By: Melinda Suarez

Better

My heart feels heavy and
It burns with every pulse
Cause I told you
I can’t see you
Against my impulse
Your face skewed
But we didn’t feud
When we tried to read the signs
And we tried all kinds of ways
To read between the lines

Everything was better
When we were just good friends
We fill the space
To transcend the room
Above the ground

I didn’t know
How hard it would be
When I had to let you go
Oh please don’t discard me
Or throw a low blow
And although we
We had our days
I can’t bear to see her go
And now after our first kiss
I have to let you go

Everything was better
When we were just good friends
We fill the space
To transcend the room
Above the ground

And I know that it hurts
When I see you exert
All this doubt when we shout
And all this crying about
When we’ve been acting out
From this hurt that we’ve learnt
And I’ll try to divert
All the meaningless flirts
But I’ll learn from these burns
Yes I’ll learn from these burns

Everything was better
When we were just good friends
We fill the space
To transcend the room
Above the ground
Above the sound…

Only One

Written By: Melinda Suarez

Only One

I hate to say it but
I know you’re leaving soon
Until the break of dawn
And I can’t fight no more
Walking around
Through the living room
All your things are gone
And you are out that door

(Mouth trumpet)

Let’s show the sun
Just how hot we get
You know it will be fun
Showing up the sun
Round and round
And round you go
You spin so fast that I
No I can’t see no one…

But you’re the only one
You’re the only one
You’re the only one
You’re the only one

Here we go round
The two of us
We’re floating away
I know we got more
The two of us
More to give

Luna

Luna

La luna siempre dice
Lo que no puede dicer
La luna miel y dulce
Calma mi Corazon

Canta, canta, canta para mi
Canta, canta, canta para mi

La lluvia simpere llora
Cuando no puede llora
Llagrimas que caen fuerte
Calma mi corazon

Canta, canta, canta para mi
Canta, canta, canta para m

Deja que tu corazon
Se llene de alegria
Deja que tu corazon
Se llene de alegria

Luna (Translated to English) Moon

The moon always speaks
When I can’t find my voice
The moon, honey and sweet
Soothes my heart

She sings, sings, sings for me
She sings, sings, sings for me

The rain always cries
When I can’t find the tears
Tears that fall hard
Soothe my heart

She sings, sings, sings for me
She sings, sings, sings for me

Let your heart
Fill with joy
Let your heart
Fill with joy

She sings, sings, sings for me
She sings, sings, sings for me
