"Dowagiac Fun Fest."

"Our most recent candidate was Melissa Elkins from Eau Claire, who was discovered at The Minnow," Borowski said.
A country singer by night and a geriatric nutritionist by day, Elkins completed vocals in May for the second half of her new album, which she hopes to complete in mid-July. - Dowagiac Biz.com

Bio

Melissa Elkins started singing as a toddler. Growing up she would sing along with Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston tapes, or as her older brothers called it at the time "screaming." Throughout school Melissa sang in choir and at local talent shows. After high school she recorded a demo at Gene Michael Productions in Buchanan, MI and went on to perform for local festivals as well as benefit programs. In Oct. 2002, Melissa competed in the Best New Talent contest in Los Angeles, Calif. in the catagorie of the top 100 female vocalists from throughout the United States. In Dec.2004 & Jan.2005 Melissa was the National Anthem singer for the Kalamazoo K-Wings hockey games where she performed to a sold out stadium.
In June of 2005, Melissa competed in the Knoxville Star contest in Bridgeman, MI and received 1st place. She was sent to Knoxville, TN to record a demo of cover songs. In the summer of 2005, Melissa decided to try a new place out for karaoke and got what she would have never expected to get from the small area she's from. After belting out Celine Dion's "I Drove All Night", karaoke DJ, Cheryl Borowski from Star Makers Unlimited pulled Melissa aside and gave her a phone number for a music producer from Red Ridge Entertainment in Nashville whom she knew. Melissa called him and went down to Nashville to meet with him. She sang for him while he accompanied her on the keyboard. A few months later Melissa was back in Nashville working on her debut album "Dusty Road". The album includes 10 songs, 2 of them are originals written by Melissa, "Floatin On Cloud 9" and "All I Do Is Cry". Since recording the album Melissa's song "Around The Clock Lovin" has been played on 97.5 Y-Country. Melissa hopes this album will take her far. She wants to one day become a major recording artist.
