Drummer Mel Mounds is no rookie to the funk and soul scene. Mounds has played drums for nearly a decade with super-soul heavy weights The Original Explosions, The Uptighters, and Jerome Tate's Troublemakers, and has had his outta sight drum breaks sampled by DJs and producers around the world. Mounds formed the Get Down Sounds after splitting with his Afrobeat soul project Jakaranda '79 over creative differences.
Lead by Mounds on drums, the Get Down Sounds are fronted by the dynamite pipes of the young and talented Miss Maxine Hooper. Hooper's voice has been compared to legendary soul singers such as Ann Alford and Betty Wright, and modern day funk divas like Sharon Jones and Alice Russell. Hooper is backed by the Get Down Sounds band featuring Lord Chesterfield on bass, Roscoe Gibson on guitars, Duke Chocula (pronounced Cho-Koo-Lah) on keys/guitars, Yvonne Curtis on Trumpet, and Montrane White on Saxes.
