A state of confusion lingers in East Nashville, Tennessee from a fresh and exciting blues rock trio called Melon and The Mayhem. This trio that was formed in January 2012, sounds similar to the late Janice Joplin with their songs about heartbreak and emotional turmoil. The chaotic journey begins with their debut CD Lights On released in June, 2012.
The first track “A.D.D. Song” has “gritty” blues rock riffs and soulful feminine blues rock vocals. This track is an obnoxious tale about a troubled woman with a short attention span. The woman is constantly being told to find her place in life, but she continues to struggle with her emotions. Meanwhile, confusion turns into happiness with the hope of a new romance with the second track “Alone Together.” This track has a sensuous tone throughout with its slow, bluesy saxophone and soft soulful vocals. It is a sensual tale about a young woman wanting to spend the night with a young attractive man after meeting him in a smoky bar.
Next, the hope of a new romance turns into complete upheaval with the third track “Fireworks.” This track has a “gritty” blues rock tone throughout along with “angelic” vocals. This track is a heartbreaking tale about a relationship that is losing its lust. The man is no longer in love with his girlfriend. Finally, the chaotic journey ends with a lot of anger in the fourth track “Never.” This track is loaded with heavy drums and melodic blues rock riffs along with “angelic” vocals coming from a wounded soul. This track is a bitter tale about a woman in a bad relationship with an undesirable boyfriend who makes her life absolutely miserable. The woman knows that her life was better before she met him because she had her independence and was not being controlled by an insecure man.
Melon and The Mayhem is a fantastic blues rock trio that sings about the struggles with romance and emotional turmoil with no apologies. This trio has a remarkable grasp of blues rock instrumentation and has a bright future on today’s music scene. Melon and the Mayhem will embark on their first tour in August 2012. In January 2012, while enjoying an open mic night at a local coffee shop in Nashville, roommates Nelson Icenhower and Clay Golden had the pleasure of hearing Mary Ellen Klein performing some of her solo work. They were immediately impressed by her vocal prowess and her intriguing lyricism. After a short introduction between the three, plans were made to meet up and play together. With a melding of Lounge jazz, Dirty Blues, and Vintage Rock influences, sweet sounds and chemistry abounded. They were all in agreement that what they had was special and needed to be shared. Shortly thereafter, jams became rehearsals, and the three decided to form Melon & The Mayhem.
Since the band’s inception earlier this year, things have really begun to fall into place for the trio. In spite of their busy schedules and their spring tour around the southeast, the three have managed to write and record a stunning debut effort, Lights On. This album was recorded live to tape at a Nashville analog recording studio known as The Bomb Shelter. Engineer and producer, Andrija Tokic worked hand in hand with the band to create a masterpiece that they all were proud of. Melon & The Mayhem are very excited to promote their new album, released June of 2012, with a tour beginning in early August.
