Melonie Gillett

Melonie is one of Belize’s brightest musical gems, her singular vocals equally impressive whether wrapped around a poignant ballad, or one of her signature dance cuts. 

A native of Burrell Boom, she made her singing debut at age eleven, performing Mariah Carey’s “They Can Try” to a rapt audience. By the age of twenty, she had become a seasoned pro, known nation-wide for her appearances on variety and TV shows. 

Melonie launched her recording career in 2007, singing some of her own compositions that boasted a range of influences from R&B, to Blues, Dancehall and Pop. It was an experience that cemented her potential as an artist to be reckoned with, and she has been on a path towards rising success ever since. 

Her first EP, titled “Rush” with a single of the same name was a bonafide hit, garnering critical claim and extensive airplay. The reggae-tinged single “Luv Mi” – winner of a Best Music Video award – and the entrancing “Come Away” are still featured on a regular basis on Radio stations, TV stations, and social media worldwide. Melonie’s trajectory as a singer/songwriter reached a new plateau with the launch of “The Dreamer”, a CD whose seventeen cuts showcase the aforementioned songs, as well as hits such as the lilting “Come Away” and the patriotic “My Belize”. 

She has shared the stage with well-established international talent including Jamaica’s Konshens and Etana, as well as Belizean stars such as Supa G and Paul Nabor. In support of her social concerns, Melonie has dedicated her time and talent to causes such as HIV awareness, domestic abuse, improving youth and education services, as well as the fight to eradicate cancer, for which she wrote the stunning single “Be Her Breath”.  She has also lobbied for environmental awareness through the single “Oil In Our Veins” which highlights the environmental hazards of Offshore Drilling. 

Melonie marked another important milestone in her artistic journey when she became Video Producer/Director and began producing her very own music videos.  This was followed by the launch of her production company, Metamorph Creatives, in 2012.  Metamorph Creatives has since produced some of Belize’s most impressive TV Productions and Radio Productions, collaborating with prominent businesses such as Courts Belize, DigiCell, Traveller’s Liquors, Belize Brewing Company, Bowen & Bowen (Coca-Cola), PINK and TOP NOTCH Boutiques, Maruba Resort, Robert's Grove Beach Resort and ZITRO INTERNATIONAL.  

Melonie’s versatility and innovative spirit have definitely made her one to watch. She is an award-winning artist whose music and videos shine with a level of creativity that makes her a true original, a star!
