Known for her captivating performance style, singer-songwriter Mel Parsons blends her distinctive slap-picking guitar style together with warm, mellow vocals to create a spine-tingling listening experience.


Hailing from the rugged West Coast of New Zealand’s south island, and now based in Auckland, Mel is currently touring and travelling in North America before returning to record her debut album in late 2007. She has studied under Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins, International Observer), Harry Lyon (Hello Sailor) and Ben Howe (Arch Hill Records) at the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand and Auckland University, recently graduating with a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Popular Music. Mel is also a keen drummer, and has been performing throughout New Zealand since 1999.

With a varied range of influences, Mel draws inspiration from many artists including Ron Sexsmith, Jesus Rodriguez, The Police, Ani di Franco, Dave Dobbyn, Tracey Chapman, Tori Amos, Bic Runga and Ben Harper.
