*****
Sparkling, soul-gripping, undeniably beautiful
What I love about this cd is its flexibility. Mel is so incredibly talented in a variety of ways that you're yanked into her rising sounds without a chance to look back. Lyrically, she is honest and crystalline. Musically, she dances all over the place and the end result is a well-earned beauty. Listen. Buy

Oh sure, there have been other great moments in her life but as Mel Watson belts out the hook of this longtime Fruitfly favorite she makes you believe that … right here! right now! … this is the very best moment of her life and she just can’t believe her good luck.
… until she comes around to that chorus again ….
“Mamma … mamma … mamma … MAMMMAAAA!!! … you never TOLD ME it was going to be this good!”
… and you think, aah, this moment is even better, Mel’s voice hitting a high note so pure, so piercing, so stratospheric that if Wynton Marsalis heard it he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night from envy.
................... “MAMMA, MAMMA, MAMMA, MAMMA, YOU NEVER TOLD ME IT WAS GOING TO BE THIS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” - “Mamma, mamma, mamma, mamma, you never told me it was going to be this good!”
"Multi-instrumentalist Watson is a genius.
She is up there with some of the jazz greats (Canada's Ingrid Jensen comes to mind), playing horns, saxe’s, flute, percussion... Watson also uses her voice as an instrument, emulating sounds in an aural scat, reaching tones that would give Mariah Carey and Celine Dion hernias."
