Bio
A capella group MeNaiset delve deep into the Finnish and Finno-Ugric singing traditions. Learning their vocal techniques and traditional songs from archival recordings and notations and with the help of remaining Mordvin, Seto and Carelian folk singers, the group nevertheless has an original and creative approach to tradition.
The other end of their spectrum is vocal improvisation and cross-cultural experimenting, as well as composing themselves and collaborating with contemporary composers and jazz ensembles. In addition to performing in Finland, MeNaiset have toured Western Europe, the Baltic countries and Russia since 1993.
