Bio

Some say they are rock, some say they are heavy metal, but the truth is that Mental Deficiency have spawned an entirely new genre of music:

HEAVY MENTALROCK

In fact, government scientists have determined that they are so unique that they must be classified as something other than music. In the future, all sound created by instruments and arranged in a rhythmic and structured manner will be classified into two categories: MUSIC and MENTAL DEFICIENCY.

Yes, Mental Deficiency is the name of one of Northern Ireland's hardest rocking and most entertaining bands. Yes, it incorporates one of the most elaborate and unique stage shows ever to be seen locally.

There is more to it however. Mental Deficiency is PHILOSOPHICAL MANIFESTO followed by it's fans and members.

It is a belief in THE FREEDOM TO ROCK.

It is a dedication to FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

It is a CELEBRATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL.

Nobody knows much about the origins of the band. What rock historians have managed to determine however, is that they have been making a name for themselves buy uniting the various musical sub-cultures of Northern Ireland:

They rocked the metallers in the Limelight (one of the highest attendances ever at the famous Distortion Project RocKD gigs).

They rocked the hip-hoppers at the Queens Student Union and The Pavilion by supporting Team Fresh and Roysta respectively (both packed out gigs).

They rocked the Indie/Pop fans with packed out performances at PIGSTOCK and as Friday night headliners at SUNFLOWERFEST.

They have also rocked the Classic Rockers, Punks, Emos, Ravers and even people who do not define themselves by the music they listen to!

Most importantly, through rocking these groups of people they have been able to play headlining gigs where they rock the fans of their newly created genre. Yes, they rocked the fans of HEAVY MENTALROCK.
