"Sheena Beaston music blog feature"

"Blending rap, glam, pop, electro, funk and gold lamé tights, Menya combined dj'd electro goodness with a big female lead presence all in a tiny package. It's rare to find an act like this that distinguishes itself from the hordes of cookie cutter copycats that so long to be Crystal Castles, Heartsrevolution, and the like...but Menya proves that they have the formula down for success." - http://sheenabeaston.blogspot.com/

"The Guardian UK"

"Menya are an excitable three-piece from New York – probably why they usually have three exclamation marks after their name – who purvey a spunky, funky brand of sexed-up electro-crunk, all poppy hip-hop and potty-mouthed, half-sung, half-rapped lyrics about girl-on-girl action." - Paul Lester

"Electroqueer"

"'Oh!' is one of the funnest songs I've heard this year and it's by a little indie pop group in New York City called Menya - who are attracting a lot of attention with their spunky homeade blend of electronic pop with danceable hip-hop." - Raj Rudolph

"Washington Square News"

"They combine techno beats with relentless rap, weaving in some pop vocals to round out the sound. [...] But it is their raunchy lyrics about girl-on-girl action and a few choice body parts that really get the crowd going." - Sara Gates

"Blender Magazine Review By Ryan Dombal"

'“Oh!” she-bops along on synth squelches as Dame employs a spunky singing voice to reminisce with bloodshot eyes about her misspent youth. And on the stellar breakup ballad “Lonely, Lonely,” she shows off an old-school flow and a downtown chirp while nursing a hangover after a night of being licked."
-Ryan Dombal - Blender Magazine

"Robert Christgau - MSN Music Consumer Guide Review"

"[Coco dame's] fusion of bravado and vulnerability, erotic appetite and emotional yearning, is catchy, cheap, and right down my alley." Grade: A Minus - Robert Christgau

"The Village Voice - Sound Of The City Blog"

"They've emerged out from suburban-now-urban dormlife with such untouched, pure vision that even big-rock press has weighed in on their promising, self-released first EP The Ol' Reach-around." - Dan Weiss/The Village Voice

"NY Post - Fall 2009 Music Must-Haves"

A grungy, hip-hop, blunt-as-all-get-out trio named Menya have kidnapped my heart and are sending me clues on how to find it -- inside their music.
Banking in on one of the music industry's newest avenues, the response songs, these three New Yorkers have became the underground royals when it comes to talking back, via audio. Response songs are basically based on the lyrics and beats of a popular song you may know, except the artist responding re-write their own lyrics, to basically say "this is better, this is cooler, this is more us."
With a pop-grunge hip-hop swag and impressive ear for mixing familiar beats, these three are becoming huge blips on my radar. Look out for their mixtape called "Sleepover: Series 1," chock full of response tracks to Kelly Clarkson, Vanessa Carlton and 3Oh!3. - NY Post

"Arjan Writes - Hot New Pop Alert"

Get ready to be hooked.

Seriously. Menya is one of the most fun new pop bands I have seen since Fannypack and Cooler Kids. These spunky NYC kids bring on the pop and have good 'ole time with it. Why take it so seriously if it can be fun?

Menya is the trio of Coco Dame, Angie Ripe and Good Goose who produce and write all of their own music. The group formed less than 2 years ago and has independently released three EPs, including "The Sleepover Series (Vol 1)" mixtape that hit the mighty internets today. Download the entire album totally guilt-free here. Make sure to listen their very special revamp of Kelly Clarkson's "I Do Not Hook Up." It's a gem.

Major label execs and A&R hotshots are having their their eye on Menya, so don't be surprised if they get scooped up by one of them and hit the big time. Until then, Menya can be our little secret. Groove away on that fun, flirty and totally vivacious electro-pop. Listen and you'll be craving more. - Arjan Writes Music Blog

"Out.Com Menya Feature"

The beat-dropping, pop peddling group known Menya was formed after its two founding members, Coco Dame and Good Goose, saw M.I.A., The Cool Kids, Santigold, and Spank Rock perform live one night during the 2007 CMJ Music Festival and were inspired to write their first song. Angie Ripe joined the group soon after and lent her vocals to Menya's debut EP, The Ol' Reacharound.

In 2008 the three New York University undergrads released Puss Coital and on October 23 Menya will release their mixtape, The Sleepover Series (Vol. 1), a 12-song party mix featuring New York artists, original tunes, and cover songs like their version of Kelly Clarkson's "I Do Not Hook Up" cheekily retitled "So What (I Hook Up)," exclusively available for download below. Menya is playing several shows over the next month including two CMJ showcases. For a full list of tour dates, more info on the band, and a free download of the entire The Sleepover Series (Vol. 1) starting October 23, head to their MySpace page.

Bio

Last night NYC got drunk and woke up next to Menya; but this isn't just a one night stand. When given a laptop and microphones, this new trio is certain to get even the most uptight booty a-shakin'. Still in college, these talented kids write, record, and produce every track on their explosive and undeniably fresh EPs, The Ol' Reacharound and Puss Coital, as well as their newest mixtape, The Sleepover Series (Vol. 1).

Producer Good Goose brings together electro-clash, hip-hop, and club music that gets heads bopping, while vocalist Coco Dame raps and sings as though she were the illegitimate child of Cyndi Lauper and LL Cool J. Through it all, Angie Ripe wails on the microphone with the velocity and passion of an old soul singer. When you put them together...well...you don't even WANT to know how ripe it will get. Can you handle it?
