Bio

Born as the antithesis between David Anthony’s acoustic self titled project and his previous tenure at the helm of edgy rock act Suspect, MERGE emerges as a symbiotic patron of popular music.

After exploring the hard rock realm with his CFOX Seeds winning group Suspect (sharing the stage with many notable acts such as Nickelback, Green Day, Billy Talent and Finger Eleven), David touched upon his melodic roots with his David Anthony Project. Within a short while, David felt it was time to touch on his rock roots again.

Teaming up with local solo artist and frequent acquaintance Steve McMullen in late 2009, the two formed MERGE and began mixing ideas and styles immediately. With a common goal and a genuine bond, Dave and Steve found their writing styles to compliment each other. Within three months, MERGE had a collection of original songs ready for production.

Claiming to have a pop sound that resembles British influence and a rock sound reminiscent of classic North American stadium headliners such as Bon Jovi and Springsteen, singer David Anthony says, “MERGE is all about rock and roll, melody and the concept of collaboration.”

This statement stands true in the form of Merge’s debut record “Falling Modern” wherein a handful of co-writes are noted. Experts like Brian Howes (Hinder) and Jeff Dawson (the mastermind producer behind Daniel Powter‘s smash hit “Bad Day”) assist on two of the tracks. “We are all huge music fans” David begins. “To us the most important thing is realizing the quality of a good song and being able to properly reproduce that. We feel that as long as we can do a song justice and give it the respect it deserves, then we should try to do everything we can to be involved in it’s creation.”

The lead of single from Falling Modern, "Wreckage" was taken to radio in August 2011. Since it's release, numerous rock stations across Canada have revealed positive feedback with 5 full-time adds to rotation (CJIQ, CKJX, CJLX, CKLM & CKHC) as well as a handful of spotlight programs on Merge. The promotion of the single continues currently with radio supporting tours planned.

The MERGE live show is also a testament to the character of the members. Utilizing multimedia in form of video, MERGE ensures that each live show remains memorable to any audience delivering energy, appeal and presence. Most notably with ambitious newcomer Mac White on the drums.

Coming from different backgrounds but sharing roots in Vancouver, the members of Merge are happy to admit that their music has brought them together and has aided in their becoming of friends. Singer David Anthony adds, “We can only hope that the people we meet along the way and the fans we make will feel the same as we do with MERGE. It’s really all about sharing that common ground and loving music!”

Welcome to the music of MERGE.
