"This petite female tells you how it is and makes no apologies for it!" - Radio Reverb

"Live Review"

It was a real pleasure to catch Meri’s set at the Nelson.

She is one of those performers who seems like she was born playing the guitar, it all seem so effortless. Her playing allows the instrument to accompany rather than dominate her songs. The reward is that you get the full benefit of her beautiful, emotionally charged voice.

She may look angelic but that belies a songwriter who has real edge in her work - the lyrics shock and amuse while being sung with honesty and not a little humour. By her own admission her music is punk inspired, so despite the resemblance to Joni Mitchell, she delivers a performance that has real intensity.

Challenging and affecting, I highly recommend you catch Meri Everitt as soon as you can.

Bio

Meri is more than just a voice in the gallows. Behind the echoes and deceptively angelic looks lies the pounding heart and rousing voice of an army.

Brought up by folk singing parents who split up leaving her listening to the Buzzcocks, The Pixies and Nirvana with her dad over dinner and Joni Mitchel and Bob Dylan at her mum's, Meri took to electric and acoustic guitar, singing and songwriting at 16 with plenty of things to express.

The hard knocks life continued to deliver and the desire to be 'normal' seemed to have taken over meri's energy for a time, then when she encountered buddhism she suddenly remembered she was a musician and hasn't stopped grafting since then. She played every show and open mic available for 6 years, winning competitions and silencing many a noisy bar! She played in various bands in the different cities she made home (London, Norwich, Brighton, Leicester) (acoustic, folk, rock, alt), always as the songwriter and front woman, always playing her beloved guitars.

With the versatility and experience of playing throughout the UK on both electric and acoustic guitar, as a solo artist and band member, it is no wonder that this songstress won the attention of UK Hardcore legend DJ Sy, whose remix of 'Lonely' hit No.2 in th UK Hardcore charts and earned the pair BBC Radio 1 airplay. Meri is also the winner of The Norfolk Acoustic Competition 2006 and the 2009 Leicestershire Sunflower Songwriting Competition and opened the well known 'Big Session' Folk Festival in Leicster in 2009. 'Hands Together', with Andy Vilo, was released in August 2011 on Trackmaster Records with more dance tracks in the pipeline.

in 2010 despite breaking her thumbs skiing and getting small nodules on her voice, she had her first official release on a label and radio 1 airplay. Speech therapy and physiotherapy has put her back on track to start welcoming new shows into the calendar. She is running and playing the acoustic stage at the UK's Nottingham Ladyfest and has other shows lined up in London and other UK Cities.

Live, Meri is one of those performers who seems like she was born playing the guitar, it all seem so effortless. Her playing allows the instrument to accompany rather than dominate her songs. The reward is that you get the full benefit of her beautiful, emotionally charged voice.
