Formed in the fall of 2005, Merlyn has played dozens of shows to very enthusiastic reviews. In August and September of 2006, they recorded a five song EP. In November and December of that year, they recorded a four song Christmas disc. Shortly after its release, they decided to end the group. After the announcement was made, Chicago radio stations began to playing some of their material. That turn of events caused them to change their mind, and they began working an a full length album. That album would become “Ideas,” released by Ishgnu Records in December of 2007 under the name A Band of Pirates. The duo is currently working on a follow up album to “Ideas.“ Merlyn is Maren Lowrey and Tony Colantino. Lowrey is in her second year at West Point. Colantino is a junior at University of Illinois-Springfield.
