Mescalito

Mescalito formed in 2006, when guitarist/vocalist Dave Byrne and drummer Neil Murphy, who'd been rocking out together since their teens, first jammed with bassist Kevin Higgins. From that session onwards, the group stayed true to an unspoken musical vision: a power trio with weird dancy sounds and full-on improvisation. Gigs soon followed in the band's North Dublin homeland (The Lord Mayors, Swords, and the Yacht Bar and Harbour Bar in Rush), and in city centre venues such as the Mezz, Eamon Doran's, the Lower Deck, the Voodoo Lounge, McGruder's and more. Over time the trio refined their songwriting, incorporating reggae, blues and trance influences into their psychedelic Afro-funk style; while lessons learnt from East Coast hip hop, polyrhythmic techno and contemporary jazz continue to mould Mescalito's live sound. Still smiling despite years of no-cash gigs and an inexplicable propensity for improbable injuries, Mescalito have graced the Sibin Festival, Life Festival and Knockanstockan, and played dates in the west of Ireland and in London. They have recently released their first single, 'Rant In A-Minor'.
