Bio

The story of Messages Left begins with front man Drew finally bringing to fruition a dream of finding himself unleashing poetry on stage with a microphone and a guitar. The band started out as a one-time project to back up his own lyrics, but the natural collaboration and enthusiastic responses has made Messages Left more than just a side project. The line up consists of four unique members: Pecos on the bass, coming from alternative rock projects and eclectic cover bands, brings the slaptastick funk, as the under currents of the musical swell that pulls you in no matter what genre of music you’re usually drawn to. Scott MacDonald departs from his normal role of rhythm guitar and lead vocals - in his band Wet Umbrella - to lay down soulful, swampy and blues-inspired lead guitar that blends perfectly with the pathos of Drew's lyrics. Katie, who has been more accustomed to playing a faster pace with punk outfits, decided to make a change and try for a hip-hop style with Messages Left. But the ubiquitously accepted simple hip-hop drumbeat is never sufficient for her eclectic taste (and we love her for that). So, she is continually brining something original to each track and fills each bar with passionate crashes and decisive high hats. And on the mic, with guitar in hand, Drew achieves a no bull expression of raw emotion. Filled with witty and introspective lyrics, each verse is heavily laden with deeply intellectual rhyme structures influenced by the brainier vestiges of hip hop, and fueled by the desire to pour one’s heart and soul out to any willing listeners. Through Drew's critical lenses as he sees the world we experience his self-reflections and insights on society, religion, and love. The music can be described as heart-felt slam-styled poetry delivered over some gritty funk; peppered with a heavy dose of rocking distorted blues. This is Messages Left.
