Bio

Meteoric is the recording alias for Thomas Honeyman.

Meteoric is just the beginning of Thomas Honeyman’s music journey. June 2011 will mark a monumental moment for him with the release of his album, Ruins, completely produced, recorded and mastered in his home studio.
A three-year project, his studio Obsidian Recording was conceived as a place for Thomas to produce his own music but quickly transformed into a place for other bands to record, including A Life Worth Taking, Cast Into Shadows, Chuck Kirk, Faded Colour, In Memory Of, Nick Lintner, Quarantine the Plague, The Whitewolf Project, and U.S.

It was his studio work for local artists that caused him to listen to increasingly diverse artists and genres, which in turn created his unique musical style. Most of Meteoric’s songs begin as a rough melody on guitar and develop into full productions in which Thomas plays every instrument. His distinctive sound builds from gentle, piano-driven melodies to crashing, energetic songs. “I know the final song is important, maybe the most important part of songwriting for some people. For me, though, it’s the hours spent crafting the song, building the atmospheres and pushing the limit of your ability that really matters. Songwriting is definitely about the journey, not the destination.”

His passion for creating and producing music has been a journey of discovery. Although Thomas can remember writing his first song at 12 years old, it wasn’t until he was 17 that he began writing consistently. He regularly relies on his background in piano or in guitar, and works with longtime friend Dylan Byrd to get another perspective on his melodic ideas. Writing, playing and producing music has become more than a hobby; it is a lifetime pursuit that he knows will take dedication and sacrifice.

The topics he writes about are diverse. Love is a major theme; but love from different perspectives. “Love is an emotion that’s so widely relatable – both the good and bad.” However, he has never found songwriting predictable. “Some nights I’ll spend hours struggling to come up with something and nothing will come together. Other times I just get hit with an idea and have to record it straight away. Songs, melodies…they’re difficult to hold on to. As soon as you think about them too hard, they’re lost.”

Thomas is currently accompanied on stage by Dylan Byrd, Jesse Walker, Connor Hale, and Braxton Shuler. Meteoric’s lead single, Cross the Edge was released to iTunes on June 11.

For Thomas, defining a life in music is easy. “I don’t want to be limited to just songwriting. I want Meteoric to be successful. I want to tour and play music every night, but I also want to work with other artists. I want to continue working in a studio, as a producer or engineer, pushing boundaries and creating new sounds.”
