"Music Review: Megan Heavlin Ochoa"

In an area dominated by teeny-bopper, lip synching acts, singer/songwriter Megan Heavlin Ochoa brings a much needed breath of fresh air. Intelligent, lyrically grandiose, and strikingly independent, this 22 year old woman from Dallas steps up to the mike confidently wielding her acoustic guitar and her open heart on her sleeve. Inspired by life and her own personal relationships, she composes a musical blend of truth and past lessons learned creating songs everyone can enjoy. I recently spoke with Megan Heavlin Ochoa to get a deeper insight into her art from her own perspective.

TL: What is it that you draw on for inspiration? What inspires you to write?
MHO: “I draw on personal emotional experiences, usually the unexpected, as inspiration. Whenever I begin thinking, ‘I’m in agonizing pain…I need to write.’ “
TL: What do you wish your listeners would gain from your music?
MHO: “I write for those people who can truly listen and understand. Those who will take it as it’s meant to be. Others can feel what they feel.”
TL: Where do you feel you get the most support?
MHO: My mother has been incredibly supportive; she’s my biggest fan.

Along with her anthems of love lost and personal gain, Megan Heavlin Ochoa is an open book. She has the amazing ability to use her natural-woman persona to draw you into her honest and soulful audible creations. She bellows out her emotional struggles to bear her soul via her acoustic guitar and inspirational lyrics. Ochoa is not afraid to write about the ‘fluff’, as she refers to it, and is open to experimenting with a mixture of styles and variations. Two songs I highly recommend by Megan Heavlin Ochoa are those entitled ‘Rationality’ and ‘Violently’. Visit www.myspace.com/heavlinochoa to see a live video feed of Megan performing the aforementioned song entitled ‘Rationality’, and witness her overwhelming aura for yourself. The future is wide open for Megan Heavlin Ochoa, and she will continue to diligently forge her creative path further spreading her message through a musical medium.
