"time off 6 pack 2006"

It was after accepting a position in the vocal program of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music that Mia Goodwin discovered her love of dark pop-rock.

Frustrated with the school’s classical courses, Goodwin packed up her guitar and headed home for the Sunshine Coast to find band members who’d give strength to her edgy and personal tunes.
“I was having a pretty rough time in Melbourne and like most songwriters found it was the best way to express myself,” Goodwin says of the beginnings of her songwriting.
“[It was] sort of a form of therapy  - a coping mechanism. Also, as a lover of poetry, it was a really wonderful vessel to unite music and verse and to tell a story.”

“The focus is very much based on lyric and melody,” she says. “Lyrics are becoming such a forgotten part of commercial songs these days and I feel that even if the melody is great or the voice is great, it doesn’t matter if the lyrics are shit and don’t connect with the listener.
“We don’t sit in one place on the musical map, there are subtleties in each song that take the pieces in and out of pop, folk and rock.”
The band are currently in pre production for their debut ep slated for release mid 2007.

“The band have been honing their craft for the last two years and we’re loving playing together. I’m very excited by the fact I have band members to play off instead of being a solitary performer. We’re very close and that helps with the onstage antics.”
