"Show review in Backstage Vancouver"

"...I doubt any other two-piece band can carry themselves as well as Miaou Miaou does. It also seems that any band touches Raphaël Perdriau turns to gold (he’s also the drummer of The Film Industry). With a minimalist drum kit and only an electric guitar (not even a single pedal), Sean MacPherson and Raphaël still get the crowd going with their upbeat pop-rock. They’re both wearing white t-shirts that ask, “Who is Steve Fon yo?” My guess is as good as yours at this point. The vocals have a Tokyo Police Club vibe in the way Sean sings. The song with the lyrics You look so beautiful when you’re mad is by far my favourite, it has the best vocals and the drums are great! After that song, people start dancing and jumping in front of the stage, since the Miaou Miaou energy is contagious. This last song is a tribute to the dying era of the redneck. Sean explains, ”I dreamed this day would come, but now that it’s upon us, I can’t exist without them!” Miaou Miaou are responsible for an energetic set of melodramatic pop that can get almost any feet tapping." - Lauren Eldridge

Bio

Miaou Miaou is Sean MacPherson and Raphael Perdriau. Neither of them actually own cats, but they have thought about it. Maybe in a year or two. One part rugged, uncouth, Kootenay woodsman and one part sleek, stylish European, they have a unique international chemistry that sets them apart from other two-piece bands. With a stripped-down drum kit, a one-setting amp and no pedals, they take a minimalist approach to their richly melodic brand of garage rock. Combine that with a light hearted, yet soulful style of songwriting, and a contagiously youthful stage presence, Miaou Miaou never fail to charm the pants off any crowd they have the pleasure of playing for.

Even though the band has only started playing shows, after appearing at the Olio Festival 2009 they have gone on to share the stage with Small Fame (Bend Sinister), Adelaide, Katastroyka, Manvils and Toronto's Birds of Wales.

Before discovering their love of the cat, Sean fronted indie pop group Costa Verde (members of the Clips, Albertans) and played shows with Bend Sinister, the High Dials, the Clips, the Weather, recorded a full length LP and toured Western Canada. Raphael moved to Vancouver from Lyons, France and played in Oceanic and the local jazz scene, with several appearances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. He also currently plays in local groove rockers, the Film Industry.

Some might think these different styles and backgrounds wouldn't mesh, but Sean and Raph have found a perfect marriage of musical styles, a love of rhythm, melody and the freedom a two-piece provides them. And they are just getting started…

2010 is an ambitious year for Miaou Miaou, having just released a music video for their single "Summertime III" with Matt Reed (Deps Neumonic), currently putting the finishing touches on a full length and preparing for their upcoming Canada tour, beginning in August.
