Mia Sifflet

Mia was born in New York City of an African-American mother and Australian father. Mia moved to Los Angeles at age 2 and Australia at age 6. From early childhood she has had a tonal quality to her voice that was unlike either of her parents in origin as she sounded as though she was from “the Bronx”. She began playing the violin in kindergarten and she excelled. However, by the time she reached year 5 she began to complain that she had written a few songs to guitar and she wanted to learn it. Furthermore, she could not sing whilst playing the violin and she knew that she did not want to be in an orchestra. At this point her parents had no idea that she could really sing, but apparently the violin had been instrumental in training her ear as she developed “perfect pitch” during the years she played this instrument. While neither of her parents are musicians, they are music enthusiasts, met as a result of their common interest in music, and Mia’s love of music has grown having been exposed to a very wide range of music at home from Nina Simone to Xavier Rudd, The Fugees to Getz and Gilberto, Chopin to Kanye, Aretha to John Butler, these artist have influenced her musical appreciation from a very early age.
