Bio

Chuuk, Micronesia, located 7 degrees north of the equator and about 6,000 miles west of Pasadena, California, where I was born, is where I learned to read, write, swim, set bird traps, eat green mangos, and to value people over material goods. Living there was a gift and is a significant factor in my worldview.

My parents were missionaries to Chuuk, a third-world island state. Compared to American standards, the people were materially poor, but so rich in quality. Years after returning to America (Hawaii), God grew in me a concern for those caught in the aimless, self-absorbed western lifestyle, a concern cultivated by my life in Chuuk and, now, rooted in God’s word. God has also opened my eyes to injustices in the world that we have been blind to for too long, and I am inspired to act, to bring about change through my music.

Although my music draws upon influences from bands and artists such as Jeff Buckley, Incubus, The Beatles, Thrice, Damien Rice, and Switchfoot, my sound is still unique and stylistically diverse.

This past summer, we had the opportunity to play at various venues in Japan. One evening we were asked to play at a dinner for new employees of a hotel in Ichinomiya. In all of Asia, Japan has the highest rate of suicide among young people. Being able to sing a message of hope, not just words and emotions, to those young Japanese employees (many young Japanese speak and understand some English) confirmed for me the power that music has to influence lives.

A tattoo on my forearm reads:

"Here am I, send me;
Send me to the ends of the earth;
Send me to the forsaken,
to the aching hearts that thirst for your touch;
Send me from all that is called comfort on earth;
Send me even to death itself,
if it be but in Thy service,
and to promote Thy kingdom."

Through my life and music, I want to share the message of hope with many others, the message about the difference God makes in my life and can make in theirs.
